The Halifax fraud department - real call. I tried paying for something today and it didn’t go through a couple of times. I used another card eventually but got a text from Halifax with info about where I'd attempted to use my card, asking me to reply YES or NO if it was me. The text did mention they might call afterwards. Sure enough, I got a call about half an hour after the text arrived.

This is the real Halifax Fraud dept. I tried to use my card 3 times today but Halifax kept blocking the payments. Then I got a text from them saying I’d get another message soon asking if I made those payments and I replied Yes. They said they might call me after that. This number called me (DON’T SAY ANYTHING, NOT EVEN HELLO). It’s an automated voice asking questions and you just press the buttons. They don’t ask for any pin or passwords.

This happened right after someone tried to pull a fast one by pretending to be from my bank in an earlier conversation. They’re masquerading as the fraud department, but it’s all automated nonsense. You get prompted to select from three dates when asked about your birth year. Let me be clear: proper fraud teams do not operate like this. I've already touched base with my bank, and they’ve assured me that this number isn't affiliated with their fraud team whatsoever.

So, I got a call from someone claiming to be the Bank of Scotland's Fraud Dept saying my card ending in XXXX was charged £1.54 online at 14:03 by GEP001AY, but the payment got declined. Watch out folks. These scammers have figured out how to fake any number, even those of banks. If someone rings claiming to be your bank, don’t share any details. Better yet, don’t even say your name. Once they hang up, use the number glued on the back of your card to ring your bank yourself. Just make sure the line is properly disconnected before you call them back. Stay safe!
