My phone showed an incoming call from Turkey, which seemed odd. I rang Coop Bank, who confirmed they’d got that number down as one of theirs calling me. But this is the internet, so anyone could be behind it. I’d suggest ignoring any unknown numbers and only ringing the official numbers you see on Coop’s site or your card. It’s daft for Coop to use non geographic numbers to call about fraud, plus calls can be faked. It made for a pretty stressful start to the day. Cheers to everyone for sharing their thoughts here.

Got a text saying my card ending in xxxx was just used for a purchase at 14-22 and asking if it was me. This morning, I got calls on both my mobile and landline from an automated message saying there was some strange activity on my Co-operative Bank credit card. Got a call and text from Coop bank’s visa fraud team after I tried to download the Ringo parking app through a Google search. The site was bombarding me with ads and kept asking for my card details. When the fraud dept phoned to say they’d blocked the payment, I was a bit worried. I rang them back using the official Visa number just to be safe, and it really was legit. Lesson learnt - don’t just download apps straight from Google searches, stick to official app stores to be safe.

After managing to get through on the regular telephone banking line today, I found out that the messages were indeed from the CO-OPERATIVE BANK.
