Just to add to what I said before, I found out that this number actually belongs to Co-Op Bank’s anti-fraud team. They were checking out a strange charge on my Visa card. Honestly, it feels pretty risky for any bank to have customers ring a number that isn’t widely shared and then expect them to provide card details, PIN and security codes - a scammer could easily pretend to be them. I’d always suggest calling the number on your card, your statement, or the official site before giving any info.

I can confirm this number is genuine. I got a voicemail from the fraud department at Cooperative Bank warning me about some suspicious transactions. I did get a real call from Co-op Bank but since fraudsters can spoof any number nowadays, it’s best never to share sensitive details on incoming calls. It’s safer to hang up and ring your bank using a number you know is genuine. When I rang them back on a different line, I was put on hold but eventually told to ring again later as no operators were free.
