I picked up and just said “hello,” but the voice on the other end sounded robotic, not like a real person at all. Before I could say anything else, the call ended. I decided to check the number and found out it’s linked to a scam.

This may very well be a potential scam or just a tactic by individuals angling to generate marketing leads for construction professionals in an unethical manner.

I was informed they operate from London, yet their business name lacks the customary 'Ltd.' suffix. When I looked up 'Housing Disrepair' online, I stumbled upon the Housing Disrepair Helpline, which appears to be tailored specifically for the London region. The 'supervisor' I managed to connect with spoke with a noticeable Indian accent and claimed to be affiliated with all Councils, but their explanation was rather ambiguous. I'm quite convinced this is a dodgy operation because they couldn't provide any specific details related to my phone number, nor could they tell me which Council supplied them with my information or complaint. In any case, they can't possibly be above board since they're clearly flouting GDPR regulations. They shouldn’t have reached out to me at all, as I've never granted them permission to use my personal data.

Just because a business doesn’t have “Ltd.” after its name doesn’t imply it isn’t properly registered. It's possible to pay and have that suffix taken off their legal title. Furthermore, under GDPR, it doesn’t automatically bar them from contacting you even if you haven’t given prior consent. It’s necessary to inform them explicitly that you don't wish to receive calls after you've had a conversation with them. That said, I definitely see this as a form of spam.
