Got a call claiming to be from HMRC saying my name’s linked to some tax fraud and if I don’t press 1 I’ll be arrested soon. Complete nonsense if you ask me. It’s baffling that these scammer numbers aren’t shut down or blocked faster by phone companies. I guess they just cash in on call charges and line rental fees, so there’s little incentive to act quickly.

Even after I blocked the number, it keeps calling nonstop. No messages are ever left, but the call stays connected for like five minutes. When you pick up, it’s just static - no actual person there.

I've gotten calls like this three times now, it's a complete scam and total rubbish. Best thing to do is report it straight to HMRC using this email. Just include the number that called you and a note about what they said, no need to give out your personal info.

The email is [email protected]. It's not a fraud hotline per se, but the more reports they get, the better they can deal with it. You can easily google it to verify. These people seriously need to be stopped.

From what I know, HMRC would send you a proper letter, not these creepy automated voice messages. If it feels off, just hang up and don’t engage.
