03003002234 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 03003002234 👆 is reported as a persistent scam involving automated calls impersonating HMRC, warning recipients of alleged tax fraud and threatening immediate arrest unless they press a number. These calls often use spoofed UK numbers and originate from overseas call centres, aiming to frighten vulnerable individuals into disclosing personal or financial information. Genuine HMRC communications are always by letter or official email, never unsolicited phone calls demanding urgent action or payment. Many users strongly advise not to engage, press any numbers, or provide details. Blocking numbers is recommended, though scammers frequently change contact details. Reporting these calls to action fraud teams and informing vulnerable contacts, particularly elderly persons, is encouraged to prevent harm and raise awareness. The consensus is to treat such calls as fraudulent and intimidating tactics from criminal networks.

This call is just awful. Someone who’s vulnerable would be terrified being told they’ll be arrested for tax fraud if they don’t press a button. Really hope the police are looking at these forums and manage to track down the people behind these numbers. Absolutely shocking!

Got a text saying HMRC owed me a tax refund. Just FYI, HMRC don’t send texts about tax refunds, so this is definitely a scam.

Definitely a scam pretending to be HMRC. They said I owed taxes and that an arrest warrant would be out for me. Then asked me to press 1 to talk to an "officer" to sort it out and pay right there on the spot. Total scam!

I just received a rather concerning phone call from a number inquiring whether I was employed or on benefits. They claimed to be investigating me for tax fraud, then abruptly disconnected. Should I be worried since I engaged with them before they ended the call?

I truly can’t comprehend why the provider of this number or line doesn't just seize any funds generated from such a deceitful operation. It’s quite alarming, especially for those who are susceptible and easily influenced by these scams. It’s a rather concerning situation that surely needs addressing!

Just a heads up, this number has been cloned by scammers in India running an HMRC tax scam. They fake real UK numbers to make the call look legit. It’s a tax fraud scam, so don’t press 1 - just hang up straight away.

0300 300 2234 - you're all overreacting! This number is absolutely fine; it’s actually used by the government, or at least it was when I got the call. There’s none of those sketchy reasons people keep talking about. Honestly, if you’ve done nothing dodgy, there’s no harm in picking up. It’ll ring you back if you don’t answer, which happened to me since I didn’t have voicemail before. I’ve sorted that now just in case I miss it again.
7 years
0300 300 2234 honestly you guys are crazy!!! This number is completely legit, it was linked to .gov[###] for me at least, and none of the usual dodgy reasons were why it rang me. So if you’re not up to anything dodgy, it’s safe to pick up, because it does ring back if you miss the first call. I didn’t have my voicemail on before, which caused a bit of hassle, but now I’ve switched it on just in case I can’t get to the phone next time.

They rang me on my mobile this time, usually they stick to the landline. I’m still waiting for HMRC to nick me for tax fraud, but it’s not the first time I’ve had this kind of call. This year alone, I’ve gotten more than forty scam calls - everything from Amazon, BT, Sky, tax issues, broadband deals, you name it. Really wish there was a proper way to block these annoying idiots.

Just got a call from 0300 200 4509 on my mobile, it was a recorded voice pretending to be from HMRC saying I've got a tax debt. They threatened with an arrest warrant and told me to press 1 or else! Just wanna say again what I mentioned yesterday, HMRC will never ring you up on the phone, they only get in touch through emails or letters. The legit HMRC number 03002003300 is only used for us to call them, not the other way round. This is a total scam, some dodgy call centre set up in India by criminals ringing loads of people in the UK every day. If you search Daily Mail fake HMRC Inland Revenue scam March 2019, you’ll find videos showing these scammers in action. If you get a call like that, just hang up and don’t press 1. It’s a complete con.

03003002234 rang me earlier today but I couldn’t pick up, it was sometime between 10 and 11 in the morning. Later on, around half past five in the evening, I had another call from a private number which I also missed. If these two are linked to the same con, they’re putting in some late hours. No way I’m gonna press any buttons for some automatic voice when I didn’t make the call in the first place.

Got a recorded message saying it was HMRC, telling me to press 1 to talk about a tax fraud case against me. I pressed 1 and the person on the other end asked me to confirm my name. I wouldn’t give it because if it really was HMRC, they’d already know who I am. After I didn’t give my name, they threatened to pass my details to an officer with an arrest warrant. Seems a bit off to me - I doubt HMRC would handle things like that. Pretty sure this was a scam. NEVER share any personal info on calls like this!

This is the issue, they keep faking numbers and changing them every day, like 0300200---- & 0300300----, just the last four digits differ each day. If u look up that Daily Mail article from March 2019 about fake call centres from India pretending to be the Inland Revenue, it shows exactly how they operate. It's an 18 person gang using VOIP and BT’s online directory. There's a video of them too, so be careful. If u get a call like this, just hang up and never press 1.

just to say again like ive said loads today HMRC never ring you up on the phone, they only send emails or proper letters in the post. the real HMRC number is 0300 200 3300 and thats for us to call THEM, not the other way round. scammers use VOIP like skype to spoof that number so it looks legit on your caller id but it aint. seriously, someone needs to shut down these fake call centres in India. just google daily mail inland revenue indian scam call centre and youll see how they trick people. if you get a call, just hang up and dont press 1 - its a scam!

Blimey - Some guy in India calling me up, saying I’ll get arrested for not paying tax to HMRC which I don’t even owe. I’m proper scared now, locked all my doors and windows just in case the dodgy ‘officer’ turns up. Honestly, if you buy into this nonsense, maybe you shouldn’t be left alone!

Didn’t know the number but picked up anyway. Nobody said a word and then the call just got cut off. I’ve blocked it now, but I bet they’ll ring back from some other number soon. It’s shocking they manage to do this with no consequences.

Got a dodgy call, total muppets. Had a quick look at some previous comments and might just jump on that one from about 3 hours back. Something’s gotta be done to put a stop to these sneaky crooks.

Got a call from this number just now! It was some robot voice saying I’m involved in tax fraud or something. Said if I didn’t press 1, I'd get arrested. I just ended the call straight away - clearly a scam.

Kept calling over and over again. It rang so many times I had enough time to Google the number and found out it's dodgy. Bet I'll get another call from them by tomorrow.

I’m pretty sure I’ll end up getting arrested straight away like the voicemail warned about some tax probe in my name, but I’m not daft enough to ‘press 1’ like they said. Total SCAM SCAM SCAM!

Got a call on my mobile from some HMRC scam, really scary stuff. They kept threatening me, saying I’d be arrested if I didn’t get in touch right away. It’s awful that these people can get away with it. I feel sorry for older people who might easily fall for it and get really scared.

Not sure, I searched the number after they phoned me and saw loads of messages about how dodgy the calls are, so I didn’t press any buttons. The call eventually ended on its own. How come businesses like this are allowed to go on having a contact number at all?

Got a dodgy call pretending to be HMRC claiming I was involved in tax fraud and would be arrested unless I pressed 1. I just ended the call immediately. Honestly, it’s sad that these scams could easily trick vulnerable folks; even those of us who know better get a bit shaken by it.

Got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC, saying I was in trouble for tax fraud and threatening legal action. It was a recorded message at first. When I finally got a real person on the phone, sounded like they were from an Indian call centre. I asked them their name, job title, and where I could contact them to check if it was legit, but they just cut me off straight away. Couldn't help but laugh at the whole thing!

The number showing up on your caller ID is a scam, it’s a fake. They’re spoofing the number, so your caller ID might as well say Donald Duck. It’s a dodgy call centre pretending to be HMRC. They use VOIP to try and con you. Just hang up, don’t press 1 or anything. Real HMRC never call you outta the blue, they always send letters or emails. The official HMRC number 0300 200 3300 is only for us to ring them, they don’t call us. Check out the Daily Mail article about these HMRC scams from India, it’s about an 18-person fake call centre busted in March 2019.

TOTALLY A SCAM!!! Got a recorded voicemail with a British accent, said it was from HMRC and that I was being looked into for tax fraud. They told me to press 1 or I'd be arrested right away! This number has rung me loads before but I never picked up. Today I did, and now I've blocked them for good. We really need to protect both kids and elderly folks from these horrible calls, they’re awful!

Blocking calls is pointless, cos these 0300300---- & 0300200---- numbers keep changing their last 4 digits every day, but they're all scam calls from fake Indian call centres using VOIP, spamming the UK with bogus HMRC calls by the thousands daily. HMRC never calls you, they only contact by email or official letters. The 03002003300 is actually the UK’s genuine HMRC outgoing number. Just look up Daily Mail articles on Indian scam call centres doing fake tax scams. You can even watch videos online showing how these scammers operate. Best to just hang up and never press 1.

I read a Daily Mail piece recently about HMRC scam call centres being run out of the Indian subcontinent. It’s really worrying how these places keep popping up. Personally, I think we should all contact our MPs to raise awareness. Maybe then there could be crackdowns by Indian and Pakistani military police on these fraud hubs. After that, it would be great if our phone companies offered some sort of compensation for the hassle.

Got a robo call with what sounded like an American accent, said it was HMRC trying to reach me. Didn’t stick around to listen after realising it was a recording, hung up and blocked the number straight away. Heard this scam is doing the rounds, loads of folks I know have had these calls on both mobiles and home phones. Really worry about older relatives getting these - it’s enough to scare them. Just a heads up, HMRC never calls you out of the blue.
