Someone rang me pretending to be from HMRC, saying I was under investigation for tax fraud. The connection was awful and the woman said if I didn’t pay up, they’d take me to court. I didn’t buy it at all. For one, I already have an HMRC account and keep an eye on it, and also they’d send a proper letter or an email before doing anything, which I never got. So it seemed like a total scam to me. They only asked my name and never gave any proof or security details to prove who they were.

Got a call supposedly from HMRC about some tax fraud issue. There were two recorded messages; the first one sounded quite official, but the second, which redirected the call, didn’t seem as professional at all. After about half a minute, the call just dropped. When I tried ringing back, I got a message saying "this service is currently unavailable, please try again later." Funny enough, the recordings never actually said HMRC.
