Got a call supposedly from HMRC, but it was totally fake. Real HMRC will always drop you a letter first before asking for a phone call. Don’t buy into their arrest threats - it’s just a phishing scam!

I got a really suspicious phone call that seemed off. It was one of those recorded messages claiming to be from HMRC, telling me to urgently pick an option from a menu about some serious problem. I ended the call straight away because it felt dodgy. The voice sounded way too posh and old-fashioned, like they were overdoing the whole official English accent to seem legit. If HMRC really needed to contact you, they’d either send a letter or ring you personally with proper security verification, not some dodgy automated call like that. Definitely hung up!
