I received a rather alarming call just a short while ago, instructing me to hit 1 or face arrest! Naturally, I hung up and reached out to my phone provider, EE. They were absolutely brilliant, reassuring me and confirming it was indeed a scam. They mentioned there was a small fee of 34 pence for answering the call, but thankfully, I had the sense not to press 1!

Received a call purporting to be from the tax office, demanding I press 1 to connect with a representative, or face the risk of arrest warrants being issued. After checking with the actual tax office, it turns out the number is a scam from abroad, masquerading as theirs. I was advised to disregard the call entirely, so if you get a similar message, just hang up - do not engage or press any buttons!
