Honestly, this last comment worries me more than anything else I've read here. You’ve literally shared your Accounts Office reference number for all to see. That’s the PAYE reference, either for your business or if you’re self-employed, your personal one - basically sensitive info. If you’d just phoned the number you could’ve sorted your problem quickly, but instead you’ve gone and posted private details online for anyone to grab. Nice one.

Someone rang this number but I missed the call, they left a really unclear message, sounded like a Scouse accent but hard to tell. They mentioned something about a letter I supposedly sent to HMRC not long ago. They wanted me to ring back on this number and give my Account Office Reference No. Feels like a total scam to me since HMRC usually sends you a proper letter detailing any issues or payments owed. I looked on my online HMRC account and noticed a certain PAYE issue had been removed, so it’s not outstanding anymore. Seems dodgy, I’ll wait and see what happens next.

I received a message on my voicemail requesting that I return a call to this particular number. When I did, the person on the other end claimed to be from the debt management division of HM Revenue & Customs. They informed me that our business had an unpaid tax liability from the years 2012-2013. I inquired why we hadn’t received any written correspondence about this matter, and their response was, "We always reach out via phone initially." I was curious as to why it had taken them so long to get in touch, to which they replied, "We're merely working through a backlog." I then contacted HMRC directly, and they confirmed that my account is fully up to date. Please exercise caution if you receive a call from this number!
