Someone came directly to my door with a letter claiming to be from HMRC about taxes I apparently hadn’t paid. Turns out it was a total scam - really wish I’d seen through it sooner...

I've spotted a couple of charges on my recent phone bill: two calls to 03002003813 and one to 03002003814, totalling £9.17 plus VAT. Is there any chance I can reclaim this amount from TalkTalk?

Just got a letter hand delivered to my accountants saying I owe £3000 in unpaid tax. Knew straight away it was rubbish since it was about this tax year and HMRC haven't even sorted last year’s stuff yet. 1103002003813

I've come across a dodgy phone number linked to a scam letter that falsely claims to be from HMRC, dated back to August 2019. The correspondence was directed to my business address and made the preposterous assertion that we owed money in taxes, specifically PAYE and NIC. Upon closer examination, the letter contained several subtle but glaring mistakes, the most notable being the bank account details they provided, which are definitely not associated with HMRC. The bank account they mentioned in the letter was from Barclays Bank: 250357 63464695. It seems these scammers are attempting to extract money over the phone, using the number 03002003813.

this number shown is part of a scam, linked to a fake letter claiming to be from hmre back in august 2019. i got this letter sent to my business address, saying we owed money for tax (paye/nic). the letter had a few small mistakes, the key one being the bank account they gave as hmrc’s was fake. the dodgy bank details are these: barclays bank account number 63464695 sort code 250367. it seems these scammers also try to get money by calling from 03002003813.

Got a call from someone saying I owed tax and national insurance for this year, supposedly from HMRC. Seriously, don’t they know how this stuff actually works? I’ve reported it to HMRC fraud team, the police and the Home Office.

big thanks to everyone sharing info about this number. wish the hmrc website was half as clear tho. we’re a claimants union and one of our members has absolutely no tax issues but still got scary letters demanding cash with this number on them. we’ll be contacting the hmrc fraud hotline to confirm there’s no debt and try to ease our mate’s worries. also wanna know what they’re doing about these scammers. if these con artists were ripping off hmrc, surely the authorities would have swooped in by now!

this is totally a rip off, it kicks off with a paye demand from a letter that claims to be from hmrc, then you get loads of debt collection notices. honestly, just ignore it all

I've also got one of these letters and I can confirm it's a scam. My bank told me it's a new tactic, where they send what looks like an official letter to your home. But if you look carefully, you'll notice there's no NI or UTR number on it, which the HMRC always includes in their letters.

I got a couple of letters claiming to be from HMRC asking for PAYE payments for staff hired for a care plan, which was actually organised by adult social services. The phone number they gave is linked to these letters. Oddly, the letters don’t include any National Insurance number related to these payments. Plus, the postcode on the letter isn’t valid when I checked it on the Royal Mail site. Adult social services told me not to ring the number on the letter at all, but to contact them through other means instead.

this defo isnt hmrc - sounds like a scam to me. my mate got a letter asking for paye payments but they never even registered for paye. the letter seems real at first glance but when you check properly the bank info is all wrong and the numbers they list just dont add up.

Got a call supposedly from HMRC about overdue PAYE payment, they were really pushy on getting us to pay over the phone. First they told us to ring our agent, then they called again with info about an agent we dropped like 5 years ago. The number looks kinda like one HMRC might use but definitely isn’t them!
