Soon after, I was connected to a bloke with what sounded like an Indian accent, calling himself ‘agent’ David Jones. He said, “Thanks for calling HMRC, how may I assist you?” I quickly corrected him, saying they were the ones who called me first and he just replied “you too buddy”. Really odd situation. I wondered what they’d say next if I’d actually believed it wasn’t a scam.
