Honestly, these scammers try to scare you by saying you'll get arrested, but really they’re just ripping you off with their expensive charges if you do end up calling them. They’re total con artists and should be behind bars for a very long time, probably at least 25 years or more. The police refuse to investigate because they don’t really care about these fraudsters, which is sadly no surprise at all... So, whatever you do, don’t ring them, and definitely don’t press option 1 to talk to an advisor - it’s all a scam. Stay well clear!

I’ve now had this call come through five times, and blocking the number doesn’t help since it keeps switching. What’s really concerning is they pick numbers almost identical to those from HMRC, so anyone not clued up might easily think it’s legit. When I looked up the number on a recall site, it actually pointed to the HMRC website as a possible origin. You’d think after all this time some official body would be able to track down who’s behind it and put a stop to it.

From what I know HMRC usually get in touch through letters, not phone calls. They’re generally quite reasonable and willing to help if you’re struggling with your tax or payments. I was in contact with them recently and the day after sorting out everything, I got a call on a Saturday from the number 03002003477. The person on the line threatened to arrest me if I didn’t respond, which was a shock since I’d just spoken to them the day before. Fingers crossed they won’t turn up while I’m away on holiday this week!
