My partner got a call from this number earlier. The person on the other end was really pushy, claiming there’s a tax fraud investigation against us. They said we’d been sent something in the post but it’s been returned or something like that. Then, out of nowhere, the caller threatened to send someone over in just 45 minutes! My husband just told them to go ahead and do their worst.

This morning I had four missed calls from the same number, so I picked up on the fifth one. It was one of those automated scams saying I was involved in some HMRC fraud thing, and I had to press 1 to talk to someone. Obviously, I hung up straight away and blocked the number afterwards.

Loads of calls from nearly identical numbers keep coming through. I never pick up but it's quite clear they're all some sort of scam.

Got a call from some scammer pretending to be from HMRC. They said if I didn’t hit 1, they’d take me to court. Total nonsense!

Note from HMRC official site Fake phone calls alert HMRC wants to warn that there’s a scam going round where an automated voice claims HMRC is taking legal action against you, telling you to press one to talk to a caseworker to pay up. This is definitely a scam and you should just hang up straight away. Many reports say these calls often target older people and those who might be more vulnerable. Other calls might say you’re due a tax refund and ask for your bank or credit card details. If you can’t confirm who’s calling, it’s best not to engage with them. If you’ve fallen for this and lost money, please report it to Action Fraud. The scammers use lots of different phone numbers, so if you get one, please email full info to [email protected]. Include: •when you got the call •the number it came from •what they said.

This number has been calling us, but I find it hard to believe it's actually the tax office since they don't operate on weekends, right?

I tried to ring back but it wouldn’t let me, so I ended up blocking the number. Then, I got some pretty scary messages on my voicemail saying I’m gonna get arrested soon if I don’t press 1. They said they were from HMRC or something. Quite worrying!

Got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC, telling me I was in trouble and could be arrested if I didn't hit 1. Since when is not pressing a button a criminal offence? I work for one of the biggest tax firms around, so I’m pretty sure my taxes are all sorted. Do the police phone criminals and tell them to press 1 to talk about their crimes? Sure than budgets are tight, but this is ridiculous... - caller: Supposedly HMRC/scammers
