On 27th and 28th of February 2019, I got automated calls saying they were from HMRC, telling me there was a fraud investigation against me. They told me to press 1 to speak to a fraud officer. If I didn’t press 1 or just hung up, they claimed they’d issue a warrant straight away. It’s quite suspicious since these calls started right after I sent in my late tax return to HMRC. Feels like some sort of data might’ve been leaked?

Got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC saying there’s been some fraud on my account and I needed to press one. Total scam. I blocked the number but they rang again using the same area code with different last digits. Don’t ever press one, it’ll just make you lose money.

I’m pretty sure it was a scam. The number started with the same first seven digits as HMRC. I rang HMRC myself to double-check, and they told me nobody had contacted me, so that confirmed it was bogus.

Got a couple of calls today from numbers that looked pretty much alike. I blocked the first one, then another with a similar number tried to get through. Blocked that one as well. Definitely a scam, best not to answer.

Someone called claiming to be from HMRC, telling me I was in huge debt and that if I didn’t pay, they'd send a warrant for my arrest. I told them to check with my new mate who says she's the daughter of a dethroned African king, and she’s looking to share her fortune - if only she had a friend with a bank account! The caller just ended the call right away.

I work in accounting and a bunch of our customers have gotten calls like this today. It's definitely a scam. I've already told HMRC about it. Please don’t hit 1 or share any details - HMRC would never call and threaten you with arrest like that. Just block the number straight away.

Got a call from someone saying they'd send the police to pin tax fraud charges on my partner. Proper freaked me out. I didn’t give them his email though. They said they’d already sent a couple of recorded delivery letters. Wanted a sum north of £2,000. Not sure what to make of it all.

Just a heads up, if HMRE calls you, best to hang up straight away and definitely avoid pressing 1. I went ahead and reported it to Action Fraud UK, you might want to do the same.
