So today I got a call saying there's a tax issue with me and if I don't hit 1, they'll send cops to arrest me straight away! Total rubbish, just blocked the number, don’t have time for these dodgy calls :)

This 0300 200 2900 number belongs to a Scottish government office working on bankruptcy cases. Lately, they’ve been flooded with calls from folks getting phony calls from people pretending to be with HMRC. It seems like some trick is used to make their caller ID show this official government number, even though the real call doesn’t come from there. The scammers say you owe tax and threaten fines or arrest, but it’s all a con. If you get these calls, definitely let your phone company know.

This is a total con, never share any details with them, they are definitely not from HMRC.

So, this number popped up on my phone and I decided to press 1 just for kicks since I’d noticed it’s been getting reported a lot recently. Someone picked up and started asking me for my info. I straight up told them, “Aren’t you supposed to be HMRC? You called me, so surely you’ve got my details already.” After I said that, they hit me with a rude name and hung up. What a waste of time, honestly.

I just got a call from a recorded voice saying there’s a tax fraud case against me with HMRC and that I’m about to get arrested. It told me to press 1 to speak to someone, but the only thing I did was hang up.

I never thought HMRC would have an American lady ringing up claiming they’re gonna arrest you for dodging taxes. I reported the number straight to HMRC’s Fraud department and even posted it on my Facebook to warn folks. I gave the number a ring myself and left a message as they asked - a cheeky “F### You”. Seems like Alison Miller’s voicemail is stuffed now!

Just got a call from that same number, something about a fraud investigation, but I’m pretty sure I’m completely clean, so no way they’re arresting me. I could tell straight away it was a scam! Has anyone else had this? Best to just hang up and not bother with it!

Got a call from some bloke who knew my nickname, saying I’d done tax fraud and there was a warrant for me. He said a letter was heading my way to make me appear in court. I clocked it was a total con straight away, so I pushed back and he just told me to shut up and act professional. Absolutely hilarious! 😂😭

I experienced exactly what someone else said here - I rang up my local HMRC office and they told me it’s a scam. Apparently, if HMRC wants to get in touch with you, they always send a letter beforehand.

Just got my first HMRC scam call - thought I was missing out before. They told me if I didn’t press one to talk to an operator, they’d send a warrant to arrest me. Absolutely ridiculous. Honestly, it’s worrying how easily others might be tricked by this, and yet no real action seems to be taken against it. It’s really shocking.
