Someone rang me saying they were from hmrc and told me to hit 1 straight away or risk a warrant for my arrest and police visiting my address. Obviously, I didn’t press anything and just reported the call to the ico instead. I’ve also blocked the number so they can’t bother me again.

Real hmrc never call you directly. These are just scammers so just hang up and don’t hit 1 or anything.

I got a call from someone saying they were from HMRC looking into some fraud issue. They wanted my date of birth and the last four digits of my NI number. When I asked who exactly I was talking to, the line suddenly got really crackly. The caller had quite a strong Asian accent and said her name was Susan Smith. She ended the call abruptly. I later tried to ring back, but an automated voice said calls to that number aren’t possible right now and to try again later.
