I got this automated call from someone pretending to be from HMRC, telling me I was involved in tax fraud and threatening arrest unless I pressed 1 to be put through. What’s sketchy is I got the call just after I gave my phone number to get a quote from Admiral insurance. The number that called me was 03002001869.

Got the exact call again today, just a bit different wording though. It wasn’t HMRC this time, they said something about a car crash I had last week. The number’s still the same: 03002001869.

Got a call from 0300 300 2300 saying I’d been involved in fraud and that they were on their way to arrest me. Then they asked if I had a lawyer. I said yes, and immediately they just ended the call. Quite a scare!

I got a call with some glitchy robot claiming there was a fraud case against me with HMRC, and if I didn’t press “1” right away, I’d be arrested super soon. As a legal professional, I thought it was absolutely daft - sure, I might joke about HMRC stuff, but come on, robot cops aren’t a thing yet! Since this kind of nonsense was making me chuckle, I tried ringing them back, just to keep the fun going. But guess what? I was greeted with a message saying the number was “currently unavailable, please try again later.” Looks like I spooked them a bit! Lucky them. If they keep at it, though, I’m sure they'll get what’s coming to them - a rough time behind bars while the rest of us carry on living happily ever after, without dropping the soap every morning. - caller: Someone fed up with scam artists.
