So there I was in June 2019, when I received a call on an old UK mobile number I’d previously used for entering competitions and the like. The call came from the number 0300 200 1753, and when I picked up, a robotic male voice claimed to represent HMRC regarding some alleged tax fraud. The voice threatened that unless I pressed '1' on my phone, they would issue an arrest warrant for me! Naturally, I stayed silent, and the call eventually disconnected. Clearly, engaging with these muppets by hitting the button would’ve only served to confirm my vulnerability to their scams. To impersonate the Tax Office is nearly as serious as treachery itself, and I wouldn't be surprised if the police want to look into this as these fraudsters went so far as to suggest they could actually issue a warrant, rather than just lodging a complaint. - caller: Robotic male voice
