Honestly, it’s a complete con. If you ring back, you might find yourself stuck on a premium phone line without knowing it. HMRC never ring to leave automated messages, so don’t trust anything like that!

Got a call from 02821788333 with some weird robot woman saying she was from HMRC, warning me about some court case I needed to respond to quickly by ringing them back. They tried to scare me with vague legal trouble if I didn’t reply. Total scam, without a doubt. Don’t bother calling them back unless you fancy having a laugh at their expense! HMRC never uses automated messages - they always send letters through proper post. I’ve blocked the number and reported it already.

I got a call from someone claiming to be in London who wouldn’t let me get a word in edgeways. He launched into a long monologue about me supposedly owing £19,000 and that my bank accounts would be frozen. Then, he casually said that “threatening people is part of my job.” It was all very strange and uncomfortable.

Got a missed call yesterday from 020 8089 4121, left a robotic voicemail saying it was Sarah Wilson and warned me of legal action if I didn’t respond. When I phoned back, some bloke called John Parker answered, said he was from HMRC and claimed there’d been a mistake with my tax and I owed money. He went on about taking my info to court, arrest warrants, frozen accounts, and blacklisting my name. I’ve reported it to Action Fraud as it’s obviously a scam.

I reckon this is a total scam. Has anyone ever tried ringing them back to check if it’s some sort of premium line? What did they say if you did? I’m just hanging about right now, thinking maybe I’ll ring them back and have a laugh by chatting their ear off, messing about for a bit. It’d be a laugh to waste their time and mess with them a bit. Imagine if loads of us did that and sort of flipped the script on these lot - could end up clogging their lines and wasting their time instead!

Just hang up and don't bother answering, they're only after your cash and it's a total scam. They called me too and it was really an upsetting experience. Best to stay clear and not engage at all.

I’m self-employed, so this call really threw me off. Pretty sure it was a scam though, HMRC always send letters first. If I was this unsettled, I can’t imagine how terrified older people or those with mental health issues must get. Didn’t pick up and I’ve blocked the number now.

Just a heads up to everyone, if you get anything through your door and it doesn’t have your name and address on it, just bin it straight away. Legit letters always have your details on the envelope. If they don’t, it’s probably some kind of scam. Don’t waste your time!

Got a call from someone saying I haven’t paid my taxes properly. They said HM Revenue is going to take legal action and that the police would show up at my door. Really freaked me out!

Exactly what you see on those YouTube scam alerts. Someone rang me pretending to be from HMRC, said his name was Roy Brown, but had a thick Indian accent which gave it away. Once I made it clear I wasn’t fooled, he just ended the call. Watch out, don’t fall for it or send them any cash!

Got a weird voicemail with some American sounding robot voice claiming to be from Inland Revenue. Sounded pretty scary, like they were threatening me or something, saying stuff like "Don't ignore this message or else." It's definitely a scam as far as I'm concerned. I can only imagine how upsetting it must be for older folks. I'm just gonna block the number and pretend I never got it.

I got a voicemail telling me to get in touch right away to avoid going to court and getting a huge fine. They said the case was now being handed over to customs and excise and that I should call them back as soon as possible to sort it out. But they never explained what it was about or who was actually facing court. When I rang back, it took ages for someone to pick up, and when they did, they said they were from customs and excise. I tried to explain myself but they just cut me off and hung up. Proper frustrating!
