Real businesses won’t hesitate to give that info, but dodgy callers usually won’t and often just end the call. Got a call from someone with a scratchy voice claiming to be "Appliance Cover," offering to renew the insurance on my washing machine at a whopping 45% discount. I told them that wasn’t possible since I don’t even have any appliance cover. They insisted they’d cancel the policy anyway. I suggested they get in touch with the actual customer, but they insisted it was me, even knowing my name and part of my address. I just ended the call there. Definitely feels like a scam to me.

Just like a few others have mentioned, I got a call from a bloke with a hoarse voice who knew my name and claimed he was calling from Appliance Group about my washing machine's warranty ending. I told him that couldn’t be right because I only bought the machine a few months back. He seemed a bit thrown, so I asked him what brand he was talking about. After a pause, he said Hotpoint! I haven’t owned a Hotpoint in ages! It really felt like he was trying to scam me, probably after my bank info.
