Somebody phoned saying they were from O2, trying to give me a better offer on my O2 mobile plan. I told them I don’t actually have O2. They had a strange accent, the phone line was crackly, and I didn’t really hear any background sounds.

Got a call from someone claiming to be "O2." When I asked what it was about, they said it was to do with my account. Received a call today from someone purporting to be from my phone provider. Right off the bat, I sensed something was amiss, as whenever they genuinely reach out to me, they always verify I'm the right person. I inquired which company they represented, and to my surprise, they got it right. So, I thought I’d play along a bit. Then they proceeded to say they were offering me a 40% discount on my bill and asked what my monthly payment was. I couldn't help but chuckle when I responded, “If you’re really my provider, surely you’d already be in the loop about that?” They claimed to be part of the promotion team. At that point, I just laughed and told them, “Honestly, mate, you lost the plot the moment you decided to call me.” And before I knew it, they hung up without another word. Cheeky blighters!

Luckily, O2 also sends fraud warnings in the message, telling you that if someone calls asking for a code, just hang up because they’re NOT from O2. That’s exactly why I never pick up unknown calls. There’s way too many fraudsters about these days. Let’s not let them get the better of us. Keep your guard up, folks.

But from what I’ve read here, looks like it’s a common scam where they pretend to be from my phone company. They rang back from a landline 0131 440 1128, said maybe call dropped, so I hung up again. NEVER GIVE OUT ONE-TIME CODES OR PERSONAL INFO TO UNSOLICITED CALLERS!
