Received a call this morning around 9 o'clock from someone claiming to be with the Department of Media, Culture and Sport. They mentioned wanting to discuss GDPR matters with the owner of the business. Spoke in a very polished manner, had no noticeable accent, but I wasn't taken in by it.

I got a call from a polite young woman claiming to be from the Government's Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Department. Turns out the actual company ringing was IFFS, something like Industrial Facts and Forecasting. They said they were carrying out market research about how COVID-19 and Brexit had impacted our business. She sounded like she was reading from a script. We don’t do surveys, so I told them outright that we wouldn’t share any info. I also asked them to take us off their list and not call back.

Got a call from a guy who talked really clearly and said he was doing a survey about GDPR. He sounded pretty legit. After a minute or two, the call just dropped. He was asking how many employees we have, and I reckon he ended the call once he heard it’s a tiny business.

I got a call from a bloke who said his name was Andre Dawkins. He claimed to be doing market research for the DCMS. The survey was about GDPR, and the questions sounded pretty legit at first. But then he asked if I’d be up for a Zoom or Teams chat with some of his team to discuss things more thoroughly. He offered me £30 in Amazon vouchers or PayPal as a reward. That made me feel a bit iffy, so I decided to look him up here.

Got a call from a polite woman claiming she was gathering info for the Dept of M & S. She said it’d just take about 15-20 mins to review how I was using my data. When I queried how she had our company number, she said it was listed on some national database. I told her to ring me back later. Probably would’ve been caught out if I hadn’t been tied up then. Cheers to Who called me for the heads up!

Someone rang me up pretending to be from the GDPR dept, saying they needed to talk with the person in charge. Seemed a bit dodgy to me.

Somebody rang me pretending to be from HMRC, saying something about VAT refunds and asking me to fill in a survey. I told them I’d looked up the number and it came up as a scam warning, but they tried to argue otherwise. In the end, I just said no thanks and ended the call.

This number keeps ringing me up about four or five times every day. It only goes through about 4 rings then cuts off. I've tried getting Virgin Media to block it but they say it's not possible. Why can't they just block it?

My phone rang and the bloke said he was calling from the Welsh government. He pretty much got my name right, but the whole thing felt dodgy, like a phishing attempt. I told him he had the wrong number and then he just ended the call without asking me to do anything. Bit suspicious if you ask me.

Spoke to someone with a really pushy and bossy attitude. He kept insisting on talking to the person in charge of the VAT payments for HMRC. When I said no one's free, he said he'd try again later. Claimed he was ringing from IFF representing HMRC. Definitely a scammer trying to get sensitive info about the company. This was around 3pm on 4/12/20.
