I checked and this number isn't listed on the IFF Research website at all. No surprise really, they swap numbers around before people can mark them as spam. IFF Research probably does surveys for other companies, but the info they gather is likely packaged and sold on. It’s a huge industry now. Even if the original intent is harmless, once scammers get hold of that data (which they definitely do) it can lead to identity theft or hacked accounts. If they call you, just tell them to jog on, block the number, and report it. Better to be safe than sorry.

Loads of calls from this lot, they ring again and again, and when I block one number, they just switch to a bunch of others. Got about eight calls in under an hour, all different numbers, all acting like they’re from the police, government, or some fraud team. Honestly, don’t pick up if it’s these numbers!

In the end, I found myself chuckling at the absurdity of it all, and just like that, the caller ended the call. I'm absolutely fed up with these dodgy characters. Got a call around 10:30 from some bloke, I picked up and straight away asked, "Who is this and how did you get my number?" He said he needed to talk to someone called a bednhhgbjyu or summat. I asked again who he was, and he asked if I was a begyhdyfhh or something like that. I told him no, I wasn’t. Then he claimed to be from the iff, saying it was an official government line. I asked nicely what 'iff' stood for and he just hung up. Tried ringing back and it turns out it’s from iff research and they might ring again. I’ve blocked the number now.

When I looked into it online, all I found was a non-commercial placeholder page. I began to ask a few questions, but then she said I wasn’t eligible to take part in the survey. I’m thinking of reaching out to the ICO to check this out further.

Today I received a call on my landline from 020 80495715. The caller said they were ringing for the Ministry of Defence and claimed to contact "randomly selected businesses", even though they knew my name. They said the purpose was to gauge public opinion and improve relations with the armed forces and reserves. The caller asked if I’d be willing to take part in a survey that might last up to 20 minutes depending on my answers. I told them I didn’t have that kind of time and couldn’t imagine my business needing help from the army anyway. Also, I wasn’t comfortable answering questions from someone who might not be genuine. I declined to take part. Before ending, they wished me a Happy New Year and hoped it would be better than last, adding good wishes for me and my family’s safety.
