2 monthsI got hit by these con artists who tried a dodgy transaction for £29.75 through something called ‘hush covelbas’. They’re counting on the bank spotting it as fraud and putting a hold on your account. Right after, they ring you exactly on the hour pretending to be bank staff, hoping you’ll spill info. Don’t pick up! They’ll use anything you tell them to drain your account. Just block the number straight away. What you need to do is use your bank’s app to flag the scam and lock your card. Find the official bank number yourself and call them, or better yet, pop into your nearest branch. The replacement card takes around 3-5 days, but your standing orders won’t be cancelled. You can also withdraw cash at the branch if you have ID while waiting for the new card, then they’ll unfreeze your account. Stay safe out there.2 monthsGot a text asking if I’d done a PayPal purchase and to reply yes or no. Then this number called me, but I didn’t pick up. They left a voicemail, which I also ignored.3 monthsPOSSIBLE BANK SCAM I got a missed call from an unknown number and didn’t pick up. I just hung up right away. Now I’m just waiting for a genuine text from my bank to confirm anything. Definitely gonna block and report these scammers - hope they’re nabbed soon! I picked up anyway, and an automated message started talking. They claimed to be Halifax, saying a payment had been declined and asked me to press any key to proceed. Funny thing is, I actually had a payment bounce about half an hour earlier. I didn’t press anything and just stayed silent. After a bit, it sounded like the call had dropped, but it hadn’t.
