Just got a call claiming to be from HMRC - totally a scam, so don’t bother answering or chatting to them.

I got a call from someone claiming to be John from HMRC saying they’d done a five year audit and I supposedly owed £4900. He said I had to pay up straight away or I’d get a court summons that same day and they’d issue a warrant for my arrest. The number showed up as the official helpline on the gov[###] website, which made it seem legit. When I asked for any written proof, he got snappy and refused to provide anything. I told him I wouldn’t be paying on the phone, then he threatened legal action and told me to get a solicitor before abruptly hanging up.

Got a ring from some bloke claiming to be from HMRC called John. He said they’d been auditing me for five years and now I owed nearly £5000. He told me to pay right away or I’d get court papers that very day and then they’d issue an arrest warrant. The number showed as the official gov[###] helpline, so I thought it was proper. I asked him to send proof but he got really nasty and wasn’t having any of paying on the spot. Eventually, he just threatened legal trouble and told me to get a lawyer before slamming the phone down on me.

Got a robo call from some number saying they were from HMRC about my taxes and telling me to ring back and speak to a lady named Amanda. I just ended the call straight away. It's ridiculous how these scammers keep bothering people - someone really needs to do something about it!

I got a call from 02038969742 just now, they said I owed £3000 to the Inland Revenue. I’m in Chatham, Kent and straight away I clocked it as a scam because the Inland Revenue never ring you up, they only send letters. Pretty classic dodgy call if you ask me.

Got a call from this number on Sunday, left a really scary voicemail, kinda like what's written here. It was from the Chorley area in Lancashire.

Got a call from someone saying they were from HMRC warning me about what would happen if I didn’t get back to them. Sounded fishy, so I rang the actual HMRC to check, and they told me there was no issue at all. Pretty sure it was just a scam. The voice on the phone was a woman speaking with a clear American accent.

Got a call on my mobile around 12.29 from this number about some tax scam. When I picked up, it was just a recorded message. I remember getting almost the same call back on 5/12/19, but from a different number (020 8200 2089). The latest one had a woman speaking with an American accent claiming I was caught up in a tax fraud and I needed to speak to a lawyer or else I'd face serious trouble. I hung up straight away. Really hope they don’t target anyone who might freak out and follow their instructions, it could end badly for them!

I got this horrible call from some rude person who kept shouting about freezing my bank account and sending a warrant for my arrest because of fraud. They wouldn't let me get a word in, kept telling me to listen only. Then they called me a scammer and just ended the call. Proper nasty behaviour!

This message was full of errors, honestly quite funny. The bit at the end saying if you don’t ring them back you’ll face legal trouble just made me want to phone them up again to have a bit of a chuckle. I’ve already flagged the number to HMRC.

I got a voicemail from someone claiming to be Officer Karen Baker from HMRC, saying there was an urgent matter I needed to sort out. She gave the callback number twice, which seemed a bit odd since my phone would’ve saved it anyway. She also said if I ignored the message or my solicitor didn’t get in touch, I should brace myself for legal trouble. Felt a bit pushy and threatening, to be honest.

A man with an Indian accent picked up and when I asked where they were calling from, they said 100 Parliament Street, which is actually where HMRC is based. I should've pressed them for the postcode though - HMRC's starts with BX, not SW1A. When they wanted my info, I gave them a fake name and number that wouldn’t line up with any records, then said it was just a call forwarded from my phone. I tried asking to speak to the manager next, and they got really annoyed, told me to quit wasting their time, and then just hung up on me.

Just got one of those dodgy calls pretending to be hmrc again. They claim they're going to sue you and say press one to talk to someone about paying up. Hmrc themselves have said it’s a total scam, and their advice is to just hang up straight away. Loads of reports about this, especially aimed at older and vulnerable folks. We had one of those calls come through earlier today.
