I recently got a phone call from this number, and they were trying to intimidate me with threats of legal action if I didn't return their call. Having spent nearly four decades with HMRC, I found it quite amusing, but I can't help but worry about others who might fall for such tactics. Just a heads up to everyone - stay vigilant!

Today, I got a call from this same number, someone threatening to take me to court or something. I just ended the call straight away.

This number has been blowing up my phone non stop a while back, maybe about a month ago. I had to get in touch with the tax office because of some problem with my tax code, and when I asked them about this number, they said it's probably a scam. Now it's ringing me again today, not sure what they want but I'm thinking about taking legal action (though I doubt it’ll go anywhere).

Totally a scam. The digital recording uses American expressions, so it’s probably from abroad. The claim here about being based in London is kind of useless - spoofed call back numbers have been around ages, making it impossible to tell where the call actually comes from. Don’t bother reporting it to Action Fraud, they’ve got more important stuff to handle than chasing some random scammer hiding who knows where.

Got a call earlier and there was a recorded voice saying I was under investigation by HMRC and could face prosecution. They told me to "press 1 to talk to your case handler" or something like that. I just ended the call straight away because I figured HMRC wouldn’t get in touch like that. After looking it up on this site, pretty clear it was a scam!

Just like what others said, it had me pretty worried at first. Since I didn’t get any papers or anything, I figured it might be a scam. I guess it could really scare people who are more vulnerable.

Someone pretending to be from HMRC called me too. I wanted to report it to ACTION FRAUD but after being on hold for about 10 minutes, I just gave up. It’s really disappointing that you can't even reach the right people to make a report. No wonder these scammers keep doing their thing!

02038072084 called me too. I’m quite a senior myself and found it really worrying, especially since it’s just like all the other calls folks have been talking about here. I really hope either the police or BT manage to sort this scam out soon.

Right from the start, I had a feeling it was some kind of scam since they usually send a letter first, not call out of the blue. Just for a laugh, I hit 1 and asked the woman who I was talking to. She gave me some name which was a total mouthful and then asked who I was. I didn’t give her any info and asked her for her number instead, and that’s when she just disconnected on me.

just like what others have said - they say press 1 to talk to your case officer or something - its mad these scammers still going about and noone can track em down - absolute muppets - feels like the police and stuff dont really care properly bout this kinda stuff, that’s why these scams keep on multiplying.

This number called my landline claiming to be from HMRC, saying they were opening a case against me and asking me to press 1 to talk to my case officer. I just ended the call straight away. It’s clearly a scam since I haven’t received any letter or email. I reckon this kind of thing could really scare people who are more vulnerable.
