It seems like this number might be a substitute for 08004790758 if that one's been blocked. I found myself in a rather irritating situation where I couldn’t cut off the call, which just kept emitting an increasingly shrill noise. I finally picked up just to hang up again. This number has been ringing me every single day without a break. Yesterday, I picked up, and the person on the line claimed to be calling from Sky about my recent subscription. I just had a rather dodgy phone call. The person on the line claimed they could provide insurance for my television and other gadgets. When she requested my password, she insisted it was incorrect, then went on to ask for the last four digits of my bank card, saying it was necessary to update my password. I mentioned that I had just received a new card in the post after misplacing my original one while dealing with Sky. Despite my explanation, she insisted that I was mistaken about the card details, which just didn’t add up. I nearly fell for her scam until she asked for my direct debit information! When I pointed out that she should already have that information on file and hung up, she told me she would call back. I'm curious if there's a chance they could access anything vital after I shared the last four digits of my new card and my password. Utterly bogus! I'm in the IT field myself and still fell for this muck. It’s clear that SKY has somehow leaked bits of my personal info, including my last name, the date I had SKY installed, a recent film I watched, as well as my phone number. The bloke on the other end managed to worm out my full name, home address, last two digits of my bank account, and possibly my sort code-though that bit's a blur. Oddly enough, the first Sky representative claimed the number was genuine! They keep reiterating that my information wasn't compromised, which I find hard to believe. I've got plans to contact the ombudsman soon. Also, I discovered that Sky automatically opts you into marketing and promotional communications-make sure to check your settings! They never had my consent for that. I’m ex-directory and registered with TPS. I too received a call from this number and was quite at ease with the details they already possessed regarding my Sky subscription, which encouraged me to go ahead and sign up. However, after reading your piece, I felt an overwhelming need to verify things with Dom & Gen, just to ease my mind. I rang them using the landline number listed on a different policy I hold - so I was certain it was them on the other end. I ended up on hold for a staggering 15 minutes! After all that, it took the agent barely half a minute to assure me everything was absolutely fine. So, for the record-it's NOT A SCAM! He wasted no time in asking for my personal information to carry on with the chat. I, however, decided to turn the tables and requested he provide me with some details about myself before I shared anything. They informed me that the number I had contacted, along with the alleged company, has no connection whatsoever to Sky, Sky Protect, or Domestic & General. It seems these fraudsters are trying to lure in unsuspecting victims with the promise of a bargain insurance rate, only to swipe your banking details for a Direct Debit setup, leaving you in a vulnerable position. I cannot emphasise enough how crucial it is to safeguard your personal information.
