It seems like this number might be a substitute for 08004790758 if that one's been blocked. I found myself in a rather irritating situation where I couldn’t cut off the call, which just kept emitting an increasingly shrill noise. I finally picked up just to hang up again. Received a call around half-seven in the evening. There was no conversation, just some faint chatter typical of an office environment in the background.

Got a call on my home phone around 5:45pm on 17th March 2016 from someone saying they were calling on behalf of Sky. When I told them I wasn’t interested, I could hear them cheering and clapping before they suddenly hung up. Feels like some kinda scam. This number keeps ringing me every single day without missing once. Yesterday, I picked up and the person on the line said they were from Sky, wanting to talk about my recent subscription. At first, it seemed legit since I’ve just signed up with Sky. But then the lady started asking for my full address, username, and password for "security reasons," which immediately put me off. I told them straight up I wouldn’t be sharing such personal details since they were the ones who called me, not the other way round! Just got a call from someone saying they wanted to insure my TV or something. She asked for my password, then said it was wrong and wanted the last four digits of my bank card, saying I could change the password after. I told her I’d just got a new card recently since I’d lost the old one with Sky, and somehow she said the card details were ok - which makes no sense at all. I almost got caught out before she asked for my direct debit info! Then I told her she’d already have that so might as well hang up. She said she’d call back. Has anyone heard if they can actually do anything with just a new card’s last 4 digits and a password? Fingers crossed she rings again so I can give her a proper telling off! This was absolute spam. I’m in IT myself but still got caught out. It’s clear SKY must have leaked some of my details like my surname, when my service started, what film I recently watched, plus my phone number. The caller managed to get my address, my first name, full postcode, and bits of my bank info - maybe the last digits of the account or sort code, can’t quite remember. The number calling me was 02037872969. I’ve reached out to Sky, Domestic & General, and Skyprotect, but none of them would admit to it - although the first Sky person I spoke to said the number was genuine. They insist my details weren’t shared, which I find hard to believe. I’m planning to speak with the ombudsman soon. Also, be aware that Sky’s default settings sign you up for marketing, so it's worth checking your profile. They never asked me if it was OK to share my info. I’m on the TPS and ex-directory, yet within just a couple of weeks of joining Sky, my data ended up in the wrong hands.

Oh wow, Chilli Palmer, you just wasted 15 minutes of my day with your alarmist nonsense! I got a call from this same number and honestly, the caller seemed to know enough about my Sky subscription that I went ahead and signed up without a second thought. But then I saw your comment and got worried, so I decided to ring Dom & Gen to double-check if I really had an active policy. I used the landline number from another policy I already have with them, so I was sure I was talking to the right people. After waiting on hold for about 15 minutes, the agent only needed half a minute to confirm everything was legit. So no, this isn’t some scam at all. Chilli, you really shouldn’t be throwing around accusations about stealing from bank accounts like that - it's unfair and just causes unnecessary panic. - Stefan

Got a call from this number, and some bloke who said his name was Bobby claimed he was ringing from Sky. He tried to get me to give some personal info to carry on the conversation. I flipped it back on him and asked for some proof about me instead. After a bit, he blurted out that I’d bought tickets for the Liverpool v Newcastle match back in 2005! I recently received a call from a number purporting to be affiliated with Sky/Domestic & General, offering a so-called insurance plan for all my Sky gadgets, including TVs, tablets, and consoles. They suggested I could secure this insurance for £9.99 each month, and even hinted at a deal where I’d only pay for nine months instead of twelve. Since I’m already a holder of the Sky Protect Plus policy, I decided to clarify things by ringing Sky Protect via their official freephone number (0800 561 4457). They informed me that the number I had contacted, along with the alleged company, has no connection whatsoever to Sky, Sky Protect, or Domestic & General. It seems these fraudsters are trying to lure in unsuspecting victims with the promise of a bargain insurance rate, only to swipe your banking details for a Direct Debit setup, leaving you in a vulnerable position. I cannot emphasise enough how crucial it is to safeguard your personal information. If you find yourself in a similar situation, firmly state that you are registered with the TPS (Telephone Preference Service) and do not wish to receive further calls from them. If they persist, let them know you’ll report their behaviour. Stay vigilant!

These fraudsters trick you by offering a ‘great deal’ on insurance but then take your bank details to set up a Direct Debit and drain your account. Honestly, be very careful and never give out your bank info to them. Tell the caller you’re on the TPS and don’t want any more calls, or you’ll report them.
