The call went straight to voicemail and a woman’s recorded message told me they'd ring back later. She mentioned it definitely wasn’t a sales call or anything. Still, I never pick up unless I’m sure who it is, so it’ll probably go unanswered. I usually let my answerphone handle unknown numbers now. Appreciate the tips from earlier comments!

Warning! Some bloke called me with what sounded like an Indian accent, pretending to be from Google. He was going on about a problem with my business listing and wanted me to cancel it. Said he’d send a verification code and asked me to log into my Google account to sort it out. I didn’t go along with it, told him I’d reach out to Google directly if there were any issues, then ended the call. He rang me again after that, but I didn’t pick up. Sounds like he’s just trying to trick small businesses using info he probably found online.

Got a call from an Indian guy who said he was ringing on behalf of Google Business. He told me to log into my Google Business account to get my business noticed by more customers. Kept saying it wasn’t a sales pitch! I told him I’m tied up right now, and he said he’d try again on Monday. Decided to block the number. Bit sketchy if you ask me.

Got a call from a lady with an Indian accent saying she was from Google, checking my business website or something. Total scam, do not trust it. She was really persistent and sounded quite convincing. After about four minutes, I just ended the call. I've since put my number on the TPS list and blocked them. I’ve got a strong feeling that the call I received originated from an Indian or Pakistani call centre, likely using a number bought for a mere few quid. It's absolutely outrageous that UK phone numbers are being peddled off to places like India. This selling off only fuels the scammers, making it easy for them to dupe those who are more susceptible. I received two calls in quick succession; the first one was just dead air, while the second had someone on the line. They tried to throw a phoney name at me, but I quickly cut them off and made it clear that I’d be reporting their call. It's high time we put an end to this nonsense!

Google will never ring you up out of the blue. If someone claims they're from Google, they're almost certainly trying to scam you. They don’t call about “new services” or anything like that. It’s best to never follow instructions about activating stuff over the phone. If you get calls or texts like that, just block the number straight away. Also, it's a good idea to warn your friends, family, and especially older folks nearby so they don’t get caught out. We all need to watch out for each other and keep our communities safe from these dodgy calls.

Yesterday I got an automated call saying they’d ring me again - true to their word, they called today. A bloke with a strong Indian accent gave his name as James and claimed he was from Google business services. He asked me to type in a code for Google PIN, then gave me a verification number. Something felt off so I searched the phone number online and found these reviews popping up. That set off warning bells for me, so I stalled him for about 16 minutes, throwing loads of questions and telling him to look up his own number on Google. Eventually, he got fed up and ended the call.
