I got a voicemail from some bloke pretending to be from a National Law agency, sounded proper official. He was saying there was a lawsuit against me and that my national insurance number was suspended right away. The message told me to press 1 to talk to a ‘law enforcement officer’. A couple of days before that, the same thing happened but they called from another number with the exact same recording. I actually answered then but didn’t press anything and just hung up pretty quick.

They also emailed me from that same number after repeatedly calling, so I asked them to send something in writing to prove who they actually were. Seems like they just cold call hoping to catch someone. They tried getting my card info over the phone, but obviously, that didn’t happen!

Had a call from a posh-sounding lady with a strong British accent, very polite, about renewing the warranty on my washing machine. I asked which machine she meant, and she said Hotpoint. I told her I don’t own a Hotpoint and asked her to remove my number from their records. That’s when she just cut the call. Definitely a cheeky scammer fishing for bank info. Didn’t fall for it!

I reckon this might be linked to the old Swan home appliance insurance lot. Back in the day, loads of people got their coverage from them when they bought new white goods, often bundled into the price, without realising it was handled by a different outfit altogether. They mostly did their marketing through letters, but maybe they've updated their approach or got snapped up by another firm. To me, anyone who won’t leave a message explaining who they are and what they want is wasting their time, and I’ll definitely not bother calling back.

Somebody rang me from this number but refused to say who they were. Instead, they kept asking for someone with a totally different last name. To me, this sounds like a scam call and could be risky. If you’re unsure who’s on the other end, don’t hand over your name or phone number. Also, avoid starting the call by giving your number as it just confirms they’ve got a valid contact. I’ve also found lots of dodgy calls happen early in the morning, probably because they’re trying to target older folks who might be more at home then.

Got a call around 5.30 this evening from someone claiming my husband put a warranty on our washing machine. They said we've been paying £108 a year for the past 10 years. Then they said they'd send new paperwork for a cheaper £85 a year as the "hoover washer" is now ten years old. I told them I don’t even own a hoover washing machine, so it’s clearly a scam. When I mentioned we never signed up for any extended warranty, they just stopped talking. What a rubbish world we live in.
