As I understand it, money problems are usually dealt with in civil court, not criminal. The mention of “attorney” sounds very American to me. Threatening someone to get money back is against the law here and might even affect your visa. Does anyone know if this can be reported or handled further?

This automated call claimed to be Romolu Wilson from HMRC, warning me or my so-called criminal lawyer to ring them back immediately or I'd deal with serious consequences like going before a criminal judge. Sounds like a classic scam to me. I've already reported it on HMRC's phishing website.
