A man with an Indian/Pakistani accent called me claiming to be from Microsoft. He told me my PC was throwing up errors and that if I didn’t sort it, my services would gradually stop working until the computer was basically dead. He asked me to get at my computer so he could walk me through some fixes. I asked why they wouldn’t just email me about it, and he replied, “Who do you think you are, Bill Gates?” I was like, “Wait, what? Bill Gates?” Then he just said, “We don’t send emails.” The whole thing felt off, really sketchy, so I just ended the call.

Instead of cooperating, they started threatening they’d lock me out of my computer from their server. I just told them fine, go ahead, and then ended the call.

Said my computer was riddled with viruses and told me to fire it up and open the run box, guiding me step by step, then gave me some commands to punch in.
