I decided not to press 1 and just ended the call instead. Then I looked up the number here, and I’m really happy I did. Honestly, who knows what kinda trouble I might have got into if I’d pressed the button?

Definitely one of those call centre scams from India. They kept saying my internet was about to be disconnected and that tech support had to get into my computer where I do all my online banking. I told them I’d turn on the computer and come back to the phone, but instead I just left it and walked off. When I checked back half an hour later, they were gone.

About an hour ago, I had a rather dubious call from someone claiming that my router was set to be disconnected. I ended the conversation promptly, as I'd received a similar call just last week, where someone tried to convince me that my internet was being misused - yet another scam. If you happen to get such a call, I would strongly recommend checking with your broadband provider; they'll have the real scoop on whether your router is in jeopardy. Mine assured me it was all a fraudulent ploy!

I used 1471 to check the number 020319 88093 after getting a call that was completely silent - one of the most annoying types. My guess is they could be aiming to scam older people, maybe women in particular. When they hear what they think is a younger bloke or young woman on the line, they seem to just cut off. That’s just what I reckon though, because it didn’t feel like some random robot dialling, I’m pretty sure there was a person on the other end.
