Bit unusual this time - some bloke with an Asian accent rang me, saying he was from BT and that my computer had a virus, and he could help sort it out. Definitely felt like a scam! When I asked for a number to ring him back, he gave me this one. Trouble is, 1471 didn't show any number for the last call.

02031295984 Automated female voice. Implied warning about legal action if I dont pick up in time. Plan to report this to the proper police authorities.

Got a call from a lady claiming to be from HMRC, but it was obviously a recorded message. She was threatening legal trouble if I didn’t ring back quickly. I’m guessing the number must be premium rate, otherwise why bother calling at all? Sadly, it’s probably the older or more vulnerable folks who get caught out and that could lead to big problems for them.

Got a call that sounded really urgent, asking me to dial the number they gave. I decided to call the police fraud unit instead. They told me to just ignore any threats about legal action but they did make a note of what happened. Being an older widow, this kind of thing was seriously stressful for me!

Had a similar run-in like the one mentioned earlier but the recorded voice sounded proper 'home counties' English this time. Maybe they’ve cottoned on that folks find it hard to trust an American accent when it comes to HMRC calls. Trouble is, she spoke so quietly it was barely possible to make out what she was saying!

I got a call from some bloke once and decided to play along, telling him off and he just dropped the call. So, I rang him back, he instantly knew it was me and I had another go at him. Mr Smith doesn’t seem to have much patience, that’s for sure... But I didn’t stop there, kept ringing him over and over again... Honestly, I'm enjoying every minute of it! Bet he regrets ever dialling my landline now! (Btw, all calls are from a different number each time.) Might even set up a bogus number and charge them a fiver whenever they answer, is that even allowed?

Got a weird, jumbled voicemail threatening legal action if you dont get back to them. Sounded really creepy so I ignored it. Could really scare old folks or people who might be vulnerable.

My missus got a call from someone threatening court and the police knocking on our door. Lucky I got home while she was still on the phone, poor girl was nearly in tears. I told him where to go and he quickly ended the call. These sorts of calls really need to be stopped. It’s dangerous for folk who are easily scared. HMRC usually only contact through letters, never by phone.

I’ve gone ahead and let BT know, just in case I got charged for ringing that number back (bit daft of me really). They said to wait for my next bill and if there’s a charge, ring 150 and they’ll sort a refund out.

I got a call from this number with the exact same pre-recorded message like others have said, claiming to be from HMRC and telling me to get in touch right away. I've gone ahead and blocked the number now. They really ought to have their line cut off straight away once these complaints start popping up.

I got a robotic call claiming to be from HMRC and warning about legal trouble. The caller ID showed 0203 129 5984 but it also said 'International' on the screen, which made me pretty sure it was a scam.

My mum, who’s quite old, got a call from someone with an American accent claiming to be an Officer Smith from HMRC, saying she was in big trouble. I told her if he rings back, just hand him my number. What a bloody idiot!

Got two scary messages on my voicemail, one sounded like an American lady getting pretty threatening, and the other was some guy from India telling me to ring a different number. Honestly, people like that deserve some serious punishment. What bugs me the most is why phone companies don’t take tougher action against these calls - they should have a proper system to report and block these numbers for good.

Because I’ve got caller ID on my home phone, I just don’t pick up if the number isn’t saved in my contacts. Instead, I let the voicemail handle it. Today alone, I’ve received three calls with the exact same threatening message, but each one came from a different number:

02031295984
0073812905006
00919350257344

Each time it was an automated lady’s voice, American accent, and there was no mention of my name or company at all.

Pretty obvious this is a scam.

Got a call from an American woman who left a message saying I need to call back or face legal action. Number was 02131295984. With all these scams these days, its just getting out of hand, they don’t look like slowing down at all.

Sounds like a total scam to me - some robotic voice warned me to ring back or I'd face legal trouble. I ignored it, but I reckon some folks might actually freak out over that kind of threat!
