The recording was super garbled and hard to understand, except the bits where they gave a phone number to ring back and kept saying "don't ignore this." Seemed like a scam to me, really frustrating honestly. I didn’t bother calling back. If it was really HMRC on the line, they’d have sent a letter through the post first, not just call like this. They claimed something about legal action or prosecution, but yeah, defo fishy.

This was a total scam, definitely not from HMRC. The 0203 code can be purchased by anyone to pretend they’re calling from London. I found out this scam usually comes from Poland. How do I know? Because although most calls show up as international on my phone, one of the times just before the last, the number popped up with a 0048 prefix - that’s Poland.
