Some bloke calling himself "Dave Roberts" from HMRC rang me up claiming I was facing criminal charges for not submitting my tax returns. But a few things didn't add up: first off, "Dave" had quite an obvious Eastern European accent, which struck me as odd. Then, all my tax stuff is completely up to date. Also, as far as I know, in HMRC, charges only become "criminal" in the most serious cases - not something this so-called Dave seemed to understand. He kept asking me for my solicitor’s details. I told him to send me something in writing but he insisted it wasn’t possible, which was a bit daft since HMRC haven’t even fully adopted email properly. After he went on with his spiel about me supposedly being some criminal, I just hung up.

When this “Dave” requested the name of my solicitor, I suggested he send a letter instead, but of course, he claimed that wasn't an option-how utterly ridiculous, given that HMRC only communicates through written correspondence! I eventually hung up while he carried on about my supposed criminality.

My voicemail got a message from some automated voice saying it was HMRC. Honestly, I couldn’t help but chuckle at how robotic it sounded.

This number called me saying they wanted a call back, so I rang them out of curiosity. A woman answered but gave a different name, not the Heather mentioned in the message that came with the number. When I phoned, they picked up immediately, which struck me as odd since HMRC usually don’t answer right away. The woman had an Indian accent and asked for my mobile number, which felt off because I thought the real HMRC would ask for my National Insurance number instead. When I said I’d call back later, she suddenly sounded quite rude and snapped, “why do you want to call back later?”

Got a call today from someone claiming to be with HM Revenue. They wanted the name of my 'lawyer' and asked if I knew there was a lawsuit against me. I laughed it off, but they said it was serious and said my local office would get in touch before abruptly hanging up. This was the third time I’d been called today, and the caller’s accent sounded Indian or Pakistani.
