Someone called saying they were from British Gas Lite, but had a really thick Indian accent. When I started asking why they were calling, they got pretty pushy! They phoned again the next day from another number, but I can’t remember it now. I told them exactly what I thought about their approach and guess what, they just cut me off! Bit cheeky if you ask me :)

LIKE OTHERS HAVE MENTIONED, THEY SAY THEY’RE YOUR PROVIDER AND THAT THE READING TAKEN IS INCORRECT. THEY STARTED TO GET A BIT FORCEFUL WHEN I TOLD THEM I’D CONTACT MY PROVIDER MYSELF. AT FIRST IT SOUNDED QUITE CONVINCING. BEST NOT TO WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THEM.

Got a call from someone saying they were from Octopus, our energy company, asking about meter readings. The caller had a really strong Indian accent, which seemed odd to me. I told them Octopus call centres are based in the UK, so they must be a scam. After that, they just said alright and hung up. I only found out about this because I double-checked with Octopus before and added a password to our account for security in case of calls like this!

Someone called saying they were from Opus, claiming there was a wrong meter reading at our address because of a postcode mix-up. He refused to send any info via email and while we were speaking, I looked up Opus’ phone number - it’s actually 01604, not 01905. Total scam attempt if you ask me.

DON'T FALL FOR IT! Got a call from a bloke with an Asian accent saying he was from Pozitive Energy. He claimed they missed reading our meter last month and that our bill was overdue. Luckily, I manage the utilities for our firm and I know our meter is read every half hour because our consumption is pretty high! Got a call from someone saying they were with Octopus Energy, sounded like they had a thick Indian accent. They kept going on about two meters registered to the same place and mentioned sending an email with a serial number. They did know some of my details like the supplier and address, so I let the call go on for a bit since we just had a smart meter installed recently. You can always tell them apart - when you pick up there’s silence for a moment, then you hear the busy noise of a call centre, and then usually an Indian accent asking how you are. How am I? I’d be better off if I didn’t have to put up with annoying scam calls like this. My go-to move is simple: don’t get drawn in, just hang up straight away.

Got a call on our work line from 01905570960, bloke said he was from EON. Did the typical sales patter then just dropped the call. He kept buzzing non stop and when we finally picked up again the guy shouted "SHUT UP MOTHERF*****" and slammed the phone down. Lovely chap.

To help stop scams and dodgy calls, everyone should report any suspicious calls. Just text the number and call info to 7726. When loads of people do this, it sets off a warning for that number across all the phone networks. Don’t bother reporting genuine business calls though. Scam texts can also be sent straight to 7726. For scam emails or screenshots of dodgy texts with weird links or attachments, send them to '[email protected]'. If you think someone’s got hold of your bank info, tell your bank straight away and report it to the police on 03001232040.

They said they were with British Gas but couldn’t show any proof, and the number wasn’t from British Gas either. Best not to share any info with them.

Just like others, I got a call from 01905 570 960 where the bloke said he was from British Gas trying to confirm my meter number. I said no thanks, then he put me through to his “line manager” who asked the same thing. I said no again and they ended the call.

Got a call from someone saying he's 'Steve' at EON Next, number 01905 570960, claiming my gas contract needs renewing. I told him that EON usually sends letters, not cold calls, and he kept talking over me insisting he was "definitely" from EON. I just ended the call. The companies who supply these phone numbers really should be held accountable when scammers are using them, it’s about time.

01905570960 called me claiming to be British Gas, said there was some confusion with my bill and another firm. Complete con, didn’t even let me talk and just ended the call.

So today we got called again, like the fifth time now, and they said they were from BG. But when I asked if they really were British Gas, the guy just said their system shows they are or something. Sounds like a proper scam script to me. Luckily, we checked the number the very first time and saw it was actually WAVECREST - definitely some dodgy scam going on.

Got a call from someone saying they were with British Gas and wanted my supply ref. Seriously, don’t give out any info to these people! They seemed totally clueless when I questioned them. After I pushed back a bit, they just ended the call. Like others have said, this definitely feels like one of those billing scams. It’s so frustrating that BT or whoever’s in charge can’t just block all these scam calls once and for all.

Got a call from someone pretending to be legit, but they somehow had loads of personal details about me which is pretty scary. The way they spoke reminded me of that old show "Mind Your Language" - anyone who's seen it will understand what I'm saying. Definitely set off alarm bells for me.

Got a call from a bloke claiming he was with NPower. Said there was a problem with our supply number and it was all messed up with other customers, something about the bill being unusually high. I quickly told him to quit messing about and hung up on him. No time for that nonsense.

Someone called me saying they were from UGP regarding a meter reading, but the postcode they gave was wrong, which made me worry I'd end up with the wrong bill. They seemed to know some stuff about the meter number and the right address already. They wanted to send me a link by email and asked for my email address, but when I refused since they already had it, they just hung up. Up to that moment, the call felt pretty convincing because they knew some accurate details.

Got a call from 01905 570960 today asking for "the account holder" regarding our business gas with British Gas. The caller didn’t have a specific name to talk to but mentioned some details that seemed legit. The funny thing is, he just had the wrong supplier completely!

Got a call from a guy with an Indian accent calling himself Richard, claiming SSE had overcharged us for our business gas. Thing is, we’re not even customers of SSE. Plus, we only have electricity here, no gas at all. Also, the address he was talking about is where we lived over two years ago - we moved ages ago! I told him he was talking rubbish and ended the call. But he’s called back five times in just one hour and was quite cheeky about it.

Got a call from 01905 570960, the guy claimed to be from EDF. Actually, he rang yesterday from another number which I blocked straight away. Today he wanted to talk to our accounts payable about an EDF account. I told him no one was in, and then he said there’s been odd gas usage on our account and wanted me to pull up the invoice so he could fix some info. Problem is, we only get electricity, no gas. I told him I already checked with EDF after his earlier call and all’s well. Blocked the number once more.

So this bloke rang me a few times this week, told me his name was Scott Gibson - which is a bit hard to swallow coming from an Indian accent! Got three calls from him, and honestly, it felt like harassment. Cheers for the heads-up about this dodgy caller, I’ve gone ahead and blocked him now.

Some dodgy lot rang claiming to be Engie, and somehow they already had all our MPAN numbers. Total SCAMMERS, so I’d just say hang up straight away if you get a call like that.

Got a call from someone saying they were from Eon-Next. They knew loads of things right, like the names of the directors and when my contract ends, which made me think it might be legit at first. But then they started pushing hard, and when I mentioned I wasn’t interested in talking about my contract, they got quite rude, saying I’d automatically be renewed with a 20% increase. They even had the nerve to accuse me of wasting their time! Told them firmly to stop with the nonsense and quit trying to scam folks. I’ve blocked the number now. Watch out for these types!
