So, this bloke rang me yesterday on 07749864187 saying he was from BT. Apparently, my internet had been hacked or something. He told me to fire up my computer and he'd guide me through to spot some sort of ripples on the screen. Also, I've seen him use 02039507555 too.

An elderly lady I know, 86 years old, got a call from a man who sounded like he might have an Indian accent. He claimed her internet was down and wanted her to get on her computer to sort it out. Mum has no BT contract, no computer, and no smartphone, so I stepped in. After about ten minutes of him spinning stories and me calling out the nonsense, plus saying I’d take it up with the police, he finally backed off. This sort of scam could easily fool some folks, so I felt it was important to flag it as a real risk.

Got a call from someone claiming to be BT, but she spoke with a really strong Indian accent and said her name was Rosie Barker. She sent me a security code to my phone that looked proper, with the BT logo and all. I knew straight away it was dodgy, but I played along to waste their time. I told them I had to fetch my laptop and plug it in, and that updates were installing, while I just carried on doing my thing at home. They started shouting down the phone, trying to hurry me up. Absolute disgraceful scammers, the worst!

Totally a scam, no doubt. The person said they were from BT and said someone was messing with my internet without permission. I asked for a number to ring them back on and they gave me 1793596931, but then when I tried asking more, they just cut me off.

I've seen similar tales floating about - had an Asian chap ring me up the other day, it was quite the racket in the background, like one of those bustling call centres. He began with some daft verification nonsense, asking for the first and last letters of my email address, which was utterly wrong for someone who had been with the company over a decade ago. I could smell something off right away but decided to humour him a bit and see where it was headed. Then he had the audacity to ask me to type a command in the 'Run>' prompt, which, naturally, I had no intention of doing. When I pressed for a phone number to verify he was from BT, he supplied me with this one.

This morning, I had a rather unsettling phone call that purported to be from BT. They insisted that my internet speed was not up to par and claimed that both my online security and banking details on my computer and mobile were at risk. The conversation dragged on for a whopping two hours, including a rather unnecessary 10-minute pause, and they mentioned something about calling me back to 'wrap things up' later on. As an 86-year-old with no expertise in technology, the whole affair sent my stress levels soaring, to the point where I genuinely felt unwell. Interestingly, the individual on the line had what sounded like an Asian accent.

A bloke saying he was from BT customer support told me his name was David Williams. I received a bizarre phone call from a group claiming to represent BT, consisting of several callers from Asia. They were insistent that I download a remote access application onto my iPhone, professing it was necessary to rectify a supposed compromise on my broadband connection. The extraordinary part is, I've had no issues with my internet service whatsoever! They couldn't provide any specifics about my account, only dished out a phone number for their so-called IT department-01793596931-and introduced themselves as Alex Mark with an employee number of BT11653. The persistence was astounding; our conversation dragged on for over half an hour! They kept insisting my account was in imminent danger of being hacked and ominously warned that they wouldn’t take responsibility for any data or financial losses should I choose to ignore this “urgent” issue. To top it off, the line was dreadful, and they continually insisted on escalating my call to a ‘superior’ or ‘line manager’-which only added to the oddness of the situation!

Like many others, I received a call from what sounded like a busy call centre, with a distinct foreign accent. The callers claimed to represent BT Openreach, insisting they'd identified issues with my router and suggested I check my broadband speed using speedtest.net. Having had previous interactions with Openreach, I'm aware they typically direct customers to their official 'btwholesale tester'. This definitely rings alarm bells for a potential scam! I’ve just received a call from the number 0044 1793596931. Quite amusing, really, considering that the moment I spot the 0044 code, I instantly realise it’s an international call. It’s rather peculiar that a legitimate business would use such an arbitrary number, isn't it? Furthermore, BT tends to increase your bill rather than reaching out to assist with anything, so one has to be sceptical. Got a call from a guy with an Asian accent claiming to be from BT, saying my internet wasn’t safe and asking me to log into my computer. I was suspicious so I asked for his name and number to call him back. He said his name was Paul Wilson and gave me the number 00 44 1793 596931. I’m pretty sure my internet’s fine anyway.

Got a call from a guy claiming to be from BT Openreach, sounded like he was West Indian. He asked me about the lights on my router and their colours. Then he wanted me to get on my computer, saying I'd lose internet this Thursday because of lockdown. Gave me the number I’m sharing here. Definitely a scam.

Got a call from some bloke saying he was with BT, telling me my internet was compromised. I didn’t fall for it, but I reckon a less cautious person might. He wouldn’t verify my BT account details either. Then he asked me to enter something into my web browser - 100% a scam trying to hack my computer! Just hang up straight away and don’t share any info or follow their instructions!

They were saying they were from BT, telling me my IP address was at risk and they were the tech support who could sort it out. They seemed fine with you ringing them back to keep on scamming you - just be careful out there.

This is a complete con. They claimed to represent BT, saying my internet router was supposedly pulling down all sorts of dodgy files and that they could assist in sorting it out. They inquired about the number of lights on my router and their colours. Eventually, I was forwarded to some supposed "Technical Advisor". She probed me about my primary device and instructed me to access the App Store to download Teamviewer. I went along with their ruse for a bit until it all became rather dull, then I ended the call.

I received a rather suspicious call from a foreign chap purporting to be from BT. He introduced himself as Jason Fall, but when I probed him for his headset operator number and some form of ID, he seemed to falter quite a bit. It didn't take long before he decided to back off!

Received a dodgy call from someone claiming to be from BT, insisting there’s an issue with my internet. The irony is, I’ve got a blazing fast connection and I’m using a third-party router. Quite the cheek, really!

Got two calls today from someone saying they were 'James' and 'Donny', claiming my BT broadband was hacked. When I asked for their number to double check with BT, and then told them I was onto their scam and would report it to the police, they just hung up on me.

I received a rather dubious call from a woman named SaraLee, who identified herself as being with BT. She claimed that my IP address had gone from private to public and then proceeded to give me some step-by-step instructions to locate my ID security number on my computer or laptop. Just a friendly heads up-be cautious!

Fraud alert - someone pretending to be from BT said there was a problem with my IP address security. I listened to her for a while, she gave a callback number 01793596931 but called me from a mobile 07746488468. She tried to get me to type things into my browser, but I didn’t do anything. She kept pushing even after I ended the call, then rang straight back. I told her she was wasting her time and it was a scam, then she hung up. DO NOT ENGAGE, JUST END THE CALL IMMEDIATELY!

So, this lady with an Asian accent called me saying there was an issue with my IP address. I told her I'd ring back and she gave me a number. Not long after, a man with an Asian accent called, saying he was her colleague and could fix it if I had internet and mobile access. I wasn’t bothered, so I said no thanks and he just ended the call!

I just had a rather peculiar phone call from the number 00441793596931. The caller pretended to be from BT Openreach, claiming they wanted to assist with some concerns about our internet speed. When I mentioned we were actually customers of Virgin, he insisted he was reaching out on their behalf. He then asked me to grab my laptop and announced he would connect me to a specialist tech advisor. He seemed overly eager to know the number of devices we had at home and wanted to ensure I was at my computer. It all struck me as dodgy, so I decided to look it up here and discovered it was a scam. I promptly hung up!

Got two calls from someone today saying there was something wrong with my internet. They wanted me to enter a run command on my PC to get some sort of reference code. When I said I wasn’t sure if he was legit, he got quite pushy and started shouting a bit. I never gave any details though, I just asked for his contact number (he said it was BT helpline) and he gave me a number. Looked it up on Google straight away and my suspicions were right! Definitely sounds dodgy.

01793596931 called me claiming to be from BT, saying there was suspicious activity on my internet. I asked for a callback number and he gave me this one. He said his name was Paul Harrison and that he’s part of the Technical Team. I think the same guy rang me about a month ago saying there was a problem with my bank account. Today, I told him I thought he was a fraudster. Stay sharp, folks, never share your bank or internet details with anyone.

I received a call purporting to be from BT Openreach, inquiring about my internet speed. The caller’s accent seemed to be South Asian, which raised my suspicions right away. They requested information regarding my router settings, but I firmly decided against disclosing any details. I mentioned that I’d rather reach out to them directly myself. He then provided me with a phone number - 00441793596931 - but went on to say that it might be quite tricky for me to connect again since they handle various matters individually, although he claimed he could assist me at that moment. I wasn’t convinced and promptly ended the call.

Received a rather suspicious call claiming to be from Openzone, alleging there'd been some unlawful activity linked to my phone line. Strangely enough, they then swiftly pivoted to offering me an upgrade, clearly trying to fish for my credit card information.

A bloke named Gary McOwen rang saying he was from BT Openreach and told me my router had suspicious activity happening from midnight to 5 am. He asked for my IP address to start some sort of updates. I told him I was busy at the moment and would get back to him later. The number he called from didn’t look familiar, so I used 1471 to check the caller before looking it up online.

Today I got a call from someone called "Alex Cooper" claiming to be from BT Openreach. He said my IP address was exposed and wanted to run a speed test on my internet. I told him I use a VPN 'cos I’m working, asked him for a callback number, which was 01793 596931. I looked it up online and found out it’s a known scam number, so I just ended the call.

Nobody rang us, yet this number showed up on our US mobile phone statement with a $50 charge for calls. I tried using this site to figure out who we supposedly called, as UK citizens living in America, we often do phone back home. After checking this page, I knew for sure we hadn’t dialled that number, and when I spoke to our network provider, they had no log of the call and gave us a refund. Has a new type of scam surfaced?
