Got a phone call saying I owed HMRC from way back in 2010. Ever since then, I've had tax refunds and my tax code updated every year without any hint of owing money. Something feels off. Got two calls from this number, they kept asking about some woman I’ve never heard of, an Elizabeth Spear or something. Then they called me a liar and demanded I send them proof, like a photo of my passport, with zero politeness. I got a call from 01782401100 saying I owed £1000 to EDF energy which really freaked me out. I reminded myself to never trust calls demanding money straight away, usually they’d send a letter first. One time they left a voicemail but it was all mumbo jumbo and sounded like they were after someone else, so we just ignored it. Cheers for letting us know theyre a debt collector. We always ignore calls from hidden numbers and make sure to check unfamiliar ones, blocking them if they are unwanted.
Looks like this call came from 'Advantage Credit', a debt collector I've never dealt with before.

I've had a few calls from 01782 401121 and 01782 401123, both connected to Advantis Credit. I first tried ringing them via my Skype account, but none of the calls were picked up. Then I dialled 01782 401100, still on Skype, and again no answer. Switching to my mobile, the call was answered immediately. I told the person I was calling from Bristol and that I have no ties with their company. The young woman said they were trying to reach a Christopher Davis, so I told her she'd got the wrong number. They apologised and promised not to bother me again.

It’s quite astonishing how these callers keep pestering us, presuming we’ll just hand over our address without a second thought. I've received calls from this number on several occasions, but it's always when I'm out and about, so I've yet to seize the opportunity for a proper conversation. Ever since we declared bankruptcy two years back, we're completely free of any debts-no CCJs or anything of the sort hanging over us previously. They’ve said they'll pause everything until this is sorted, but it feels all too convenient. These individuals bombard us with calls, ringing around ten to fifteen times each day, often from the same number or with withheld information. If we happen to ignore their calls, we receive the same pre-recorded message.
