Got a phone call saying I owed HMRC from way back in 2010. Ever since then, I've had tax refunds and my tax code updated every year without any hint of owing money. Something feels off. If I really owed HMRC that long ago, I'm sure a debt collector would have come knocking or I'd have been in court by now. They talked real smooth, but I wasn’t buying it. I got a call from 01782401100 saying I owed £1000 to EDF energy which really freaked me out. I reminded myself to never trust calls demanding money straight away, usually they’d send a letter first. I've had a few calls from 01782 401121 and 01782 401123, both connected to Advantis Credit. I first tried ringing them via my Skype account, but none of the calls were picked up. Then I dialled 01782 401100, still on Skype, and again no answer. Switching to my mobile, the call was answered immediately. I told the person I was calling from Bristol and that I have no ties with their company. The young woman said they were trying to reach a Christopher Davis, so I told her she'd got the wrong number. They apologised and promised not to bother me again.
