I received a call from someone with an unusual accent who actually mentioned my name during the conversation. They claimed to be in touch regarding my Tesco Bank account, but the thing is, I don’t even have an account with Tesco Bank!

My phone marked the call as suspicious, but curiosity got the better of me and I picked up. The caller was probing about my COVID vaccinations and side effects before abruptly shifting to my life insurance. I mentioned that I was in cyber fraud prevention and planned to investigate him, which seemed to thrill him! He exclaimed, “We’re chums, both part of the GOV team! What a wonderful day this is!” 😐 When I inquired if he had my details in front of him, he affirmed with a “yes.” So, I asked him for my full name, and he only gave my nickname, the one I use online and with close family. I told him that I wasn’t aware of the GOV department he was affiliated with, but he clearly had the wrong information. Just as I was hanging up, I could catch him mumbling, “No, don’t hang up, miss, I just misspoke!”
Do yourself a favour and block these clowns!

When I mentioned that my vaccination details are documented in my medical records—information he would presumably have if he was indeed representing the NHS—his response lacked clarity. It raised a few eyebrows, to say the least!

I received a call from an Indian gentleman who opened the conversation by using my first name and inquired whether I had received both vaccine doses. Curious, I asked for his name, and he mentioned he was called David Freeman – funny, isn’t that the name of a character from that old film, Flight of the Navigator? I couldn’t help but chuckle! When I probed him about the company he represented, he abruptly ended the call. How odd!

I received a rather shady phone call today from what purported to be a Covid-19 Helpdesk, likely from an overseas call centre. They were attempting to gather details about my vaccine status. However, when I requested my NHS number from them, the individual provided a completely fabricated reference that didn’t even resemble an NHS number—it was far too brief! The conversation ended abruptly when I pressed him about his actual location and the true purpose behind the call. Quite dodgy, if you ask me!
