I’m baffled as to what they gain from these conversations, since they didn’t seek any personal details nor attempted to sell me anything.

The caller introduced himself as “John Thompson” and had a thick Indian accent – probably from Southern India, if I had to guess. It was utter chaos on his end, clearly some kind of call centre setup. He claimed to be ringing from the “NHS Covid 19 Department” and was eager to “verify some information.” Well, that raised my suspicions to high alert! I thought it was a scam, plain and simple. So, I hung up and blocked the number without a second thought.

This time, I chose to ignore it and promptly blocked the number. I also took the liberty of reporting the incident via text to 7726, the service that looks into dodgy texts and phone calls.

Strangely enough, the same number tried to ring me back three times on the trot, but I opted to let it go to voicemail.
