What an absolute nuisance! When they rang me, I made it perfectly clear that I wasn’t involved in any car crash, nor do I have PPI. Every question they posed was met with a firm "no." When they inquired how they obtained my number, I told them it was likely some dodgy character selling off people's details to fools like them who just pester others. She abruptly ended the call. I wouldn't be surprised if they try their luck again tomorrow; if they do, I might just counter with a pitch for something utterly ridiculous like a chocolate teapot or an underwater hairdryer. Honestly, I’m so exasperated with constantly having to recharge my phone due to their relentless calls - it’s draining my battery faster than I can keep up!

I kept asking the bloke where he got my info from, and he said I must have clicked some box on a website saying I agreed to be contacted by other firms about products or services. When I asked which website or who it belonged to, he had no idea. He said his firm, Redstar, was told to give me a ring, but when I kept pressing him to say who exactly had requested this, he couldn’t answer and kept going on about PPI and credit cards from around 200 to 2011. I told him flat out to take my info off their system and not call me again, then he just hung up.

But today, I finally managed to pick up, only to be greeted by the voice of a chap in a call centre. Without hesitation, I demanded he remove my details from their records. His retort was, "You don't even know what I’m calling you for." To which I shot back, "Honestly, I couldn't care less." He then chirped, "Well, it was regarding a refund due to you, but now we'll just donate it to charity. Cheers!"

Today I finally answered and it was a polite woman who used my name and said she was ringing about some kind of private pension I supposedly had with an old employer. I just let her carry on talking for a bit. Then she asked when I last got a statement from them. That’s when I asked her who she said she was working for, and she just hung up straight away. The person on the other end only knew my old address and kept pushing that I was owed a refund on some finance from before 2009 with one of the banks he mentioned. I told him I didn’t have an account with any of those banks (which was true). He then said he’d just give the money back to the bank, asking if that was alright. I told him fine, go ahead. Please don’t get caught out by these dodgy calls - I’m worried someone who’s more vulnerable could easily get tricked as he was really persistent.

I reached out to them today, mentioning the barrage of calls I’ve been receiving. They assured me they would ring me back on the number that’s been inundated, and subsequently add me to their do-not-call list. Fingers crossed it does the trick! It seems they acquire your number when you complete surveys or fill out forms online without being mindful of the fine print that indicates they share your information with other entities.

Its from a PPI firm named Redstar. If you search them up, they’ve got a website with a free 0800 contact. When you ring and explain you’ve been receiving loads of calls, they’ll call you back on the number that’s been getting those calls, then they put you on a do not call list. I tried this myself today. Not sure if it’s working yet but fingers crossed! They must get your number after you fill out a survey or put your number in one of those online forms without noticing the fine print about sharing your data with others.
