These dodgy firms really mess with people's lives. I tend to ignore calls from unknown numbers, but since I've been unemployed for five months, there's always that hope it might be a job. Usually, I pick up, only to get some muppet telling me I can claim for a car crash I wasn’t even involved in or pushing mortgage deals. Here’s a no-brainer for the next government: if they pledge to finally get rid of all these phone scams, they’d have the public’s vote in the bag instantly. Can’t believe no one’s done it properly before.

Today, my husband received a call from someone who somehow had details about our mortgage and loans. They started talking about offering a deal on our mortgage despite being aware we're in negative equity! Then out of the blue, they mentioned sending someone else to call in a few days to discuss PPI. My husband, who’s quite trusting, agreed but I’ve warned him not to pick up the phone when that happens. We’re definitely not going to make a PPI claim since we've already contacted the ombudsman ourselves. Besides, if we did, we wouldn’t involve a third party since they usually take a huge cut, like 30 or 40 percent. It’s really unsettling how this caller had access to our personal info.
