Absolute con artists! Loads of these 0300 numbers are pretty much identical, so I just block them all the moment they ring me. I use BT call protect (not advertising, I don’t work for them), and it’s actually free. You can pay for added features if you want, but the main thing is, when you get a suspicious call, just dial 1572 and follow what it says - usually pressing ‘1’ twice. It’s straightforward and you can even do it online after checking the caller. I really despise these scamming idiots who waste time with fake calls.

I had the same experience, they never asked for anyone by name, just played that scary recorded message. Since HMRC usually sends letters, I just ended the call straight away. Didn’t want to press 1 and accidentally get linked to some pricey service. Steve from Prestatyn here.

My phone showed “International” before the caller's number, so I didn't pick up and let it go to voicemail. After that, an automated message played, claiming HMRC was about to take legal action against me. I quickly came here to look it up. Either we've all got some tax issues to sort or it's just a big con! (I’ve got my suspicions which one it is).

I got an automated call from a woman saying she was from HMRC and that they’d been trying to reach me. She said they were going to open a case against me if I didn’t respond, then told me to press 1 to talk to the case officer. I didn’t press anything and just put the phone down. Then I checked the number with 1471 and looked it up online, which is how I ended up here. Was pretty nerve-wracking at first, but then I saw it was just a scam.

Just got a call claiming to be about an HMRC lawsuit. I quickly figured it was dodgy, maybe a scam, so I pressed 1. A guy answered calmly, asking what he could do for me. I told him he was ringing the wrong person and then politely ended the call. It’s mad they don’t even bother masking their number - why don’t the police or whoever shut these numbers down and catch the scammers?

Some woman claimed to be from the tax office, but her English was really poor. I replied in Welsh, my first language, just to see what she'd say. Instead of answering properly, she basically told me to jog on. Honestly, I'm hoping she rings again, then I can tell her I fancy a nice curry - maybe a chicken tikka with pilau rice and a garlic naan! That’d be proper tasty!

At around 3.55 this afternoon, I got a recorded call. I figured it was one of those dodgy scams and just ended the call straight away. Even my tax consultant agreed with me, and he’s fully aware I have all my taxes sorted! The weird part is they actually show a phone number on the screen, so you might be tempted to ring them back - only thing is, better keep your caller ID hidden before doing that!

Got a call from this bloke sayin it was some sort of tax people trying to charge me. The voice was really odd, proper spooky English accent or something. He told me to ring 1.0dd, sounded a bit off to me. I didn’t bother going after it since I’m old and don’t pay tax anyway. Looks like the number was from Manchester too. Could’ve been some kind of prank call.
