Got a call from an American voice warning me about a tax evasion warrant and to press 1 for help, or call 0161 850 8684. Didn't bother ringing back to check, probably some dodgy scam. Seems like a real risk for older folks, so I'll mark it as a scam.

Honestly, im so fed up with these fools ringing me, its not just this one lot but loads of others as well. Whenever i can, i ring them back, hang up as soon as they pick up, then keep calling them like 10 times or even more. Drives them mad, which is what we all feel getting these annoying calls all the time.

Got a missed call from this number, so I rang back only to hear some message saying “NUMBER NOT RECOGNISED, PLEASE TRY AGAIN”!!! Been getting these types of calls a lot and have blocked loads of similar ones. Usually, it’s some scam about frozen pensions or PPI claims. Would be careful if I were you.

These scammers arent very bright! They got my number from an ad on AutoTrader - but it aint even mine, coz AutoTrader doesnt show the real phone numbers of sellers! Got 2 calls today, one said they were from BT, the other about my broadband. When I asked "where did you get this?", they just hung up. Ive let AutoTrader know.

I just can’t get my head around why the phone regulators haven’t shut down the place where this number comes from and locked up those behind this disgusting scam. Maybe the problem is they haven't been told? They can only act if they get enough complaints. The number to ring is 0300 123 3333 - that’s Ofcom’s complaints line. The more of us, who pay and use the UK phone system, complain, the better chance we’ve got of Ofcom stepping in and stopping these crooks. Share this message and spread the word on other forums too. Hey all, just a heads up this is definitely a scam. My 84 year old mother in law came close to falling for it and it really shook her up. If I ever figure out where these people are based, I’d love to give them a taste of their own medicine. Please share this warning with as many as you can, don’t let them get away with it. My advice is never to call back in a rush. Stop and think… could this be a scam? Double check before you do anything. Try calling other numbers related to the caller to see if it’s legit. Cheers, JD

I just got sucked into that tax evasion scam. When I rang back, they asked for my NI number and date of birth. I wouldn’t give the NI, only told them my DOB - probably shouldn’t have but they can’t do much with that since they already have my address. It’s pretty scary stuff. The woman said I’d be arrested in the next half hour, what a cheek! The cops really need to step in and bust these fraudsters!!!

Got a recorded call saying I had a warrant out for tax evasion. I rang the number back they provided, and some bloke with an Asian accent answered, asking for me by name! This is a complete scam that my husband (75) and I (72) are luckily aware of. However, we are concerned about other pensioners who may not be as knowledgeable about these types of scams. It would be great if phone companies could take some action against this. On a side note, it's a refreshing change from constantly dealing with my Internet being disconnected, which has happened around a hundred times and sometimes up to four times in a single day.

Got some recorded voicemail, sounded really sloppy. Honestly, you can come get me at my desk any day, I’m part of the HMRC team myself so you know where I’m at. There’s not much we can do except maybe get the Ministry of Defence to drop a bomb on these idiots if we even manage to find ’em and have the cash for it lol.

Just like all the other calls I keep getting, some automated American-sounding guy claiming to be from HMRC buzzed me, saying there’s an arrest warrant out for me over tax dodging. Asked me to call them back. As if! I’m a pensioner, I don’t even pay tax. These people seriously need to be put in their place. This morning, I got a robo call from 01618508684 saying it was HMRC and that I supposedly had a warrant out for Tax Evasion. They asked me to ring them back on the number they gave. Rather than answering, I chose to ignore it and look up where the call came from. Since I just moved and kept the old owner's phone number so I wouldn't lose service, we get loads of dodgy scam calls like this all the time.
