I received a rather unusual phone call recently. The chap on the other end claimed he was reaching out regarding a marriage allowance from HM Revenue and Customs. He had a good amount of my personal information, which made me a tad uneasy. He was after my National Insurance details, but I didn’t have those readily available, so I mentioned I would need to check and call back. He also insisted that due to the pandemic, everything needed to be handled via email rather than through the post, which struck me as a bit odd. When I asked if he could send me a hard copy of the form or any pertinent info, he said he'd need to get his manager's consent first. At that point, the call abruptly came to an end, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that this could be a scam. Just goes to show, you can’t be too careful these days!
