I'm so fed up with these VAT or Tax office scams. It’s not only this one number, there are loads of them! Really wish the tax folks would do something to stop this nonsense. These scammers are just causing trouble and honestly, they should be locked up.

Someone called me saying they were from HMRC and started threatening me with legal trouble. I get that real calls or visits from HMRC can be a bit scary, but they would never talk to you like that, all aggressive. This sort of scam is going to catch out someone who’s not so clued-up for sure! Pretending to be HMRC must be against the law and I reckon these fraudsters need to be reported to the right officials right away.

Got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC, threatening arrest if I didn’t cough up £5,000. They said I had to pay it in three chunks to a bank account. To check if it was legit, they rang me back from a HMRC number I found on their official site. I recorded the whole thing just in case. I reckon people who aren’t as clued up could easily fall for it. Seems like this scam is still going strong!

No way is this legit. If the UK tax office rang you up, do you think they’d talk in some American robot voice? Totally dodgy if you ask me.

Total con. Got a recorded message telling me to call them back, no way. Plus, like another person mentioned, the Inland Revenue isn’t a thing anymore, it’s HMRC these days. I’ve already flagged it up to HMRC.

DO NOT ANSWER OR RING BACK. Got a voicemail telling me to call HMRC back urgently. I called the number and the person claimed they were taking legal action against me for tax fraud but used a name that wasn’t mine at all. When I told them they had the wrong person, they just hung up on me. Number’s definitely blocked now.

Got a recorded message from someone claiming to be inland revenue, sounded robotic. Had pretty much the exact same thing from a London number a few days ago saying it was HMRC, accused me of tax fraud. Definitely a scam, I’ve blocked the numbers and reported them.

Totally a scam - they claimed I owed £5,000 right this minute, accusing me of dodging taxes, and threatened a court summons if I didn’t pay up. They even used an old address I haven’t lived at for 7 years. Best thing is to just block them and not respond!

Got a weird voicemail from a robotic American lady claiming to be from the Inland Revenue, threatening me or something? Bit odd, cos the IR actually stopped being its own thing ages ago - Gordon Brown announced its merger with HM Customs & Excise way back in March 2004, as reported by the BBC. Plus, Customs & Excise had their own troubles then, caught up in some dodgy surveillance mess involving the London City Bond Warehouse. Quite a dodgy call if you ask me!
