Some bloke rang me up about checking loft insulation. He told me they’d send someone round to inspect my loft for safety and whether it needed replacing. He mentioned it usually costs £75, but it’s free for people aged 50 to 75. I told him I wasn’t bothered and he just hung up straight away. Seemed dodgy to me, like a scam or something.

They're blasting out tons of calls every minute through voip with fake numbers to seem real, just praying that someone unsuspecting takes the bait. They don't actually check whom they're dialling until someone answers, then they pull up the info on their system. Be careful and make sure to warn any elderly folks who might be at risk.

0161 660 3995 kept ringing me, claiming to be from the tax office offering a refund for some enquiry I supposedly made. They sent me a link to complete, but when I clicked it, the lady stayed on the phone which instantly made me uneasy. I told her the form wouldn’t load properly, then quietly got rid of it without saying anything. I asked her for the date of the claim, but she said she’d call me back. I’ve blocked the number since then.

Got a call from a bloke with an Asian accent who said there was something wrong with my BT internet speed. I pretended not to understand and told him I couldn’t figure out how to enter the info he wanted, only managing to get the time showing on my screen. As usual, he kept urging me to hit the CTRL and WINDOWS keys so he could grab control of my PC. After messing about for a good few minutes with no luck, he got annoyed and just dropped the call. Made my day, really!

Got a call from someone overseas claiming they were with Microsoft and that there was an issue with our PC. They actually knew my name, which was a bit creepy. I told them we don’t use Microsoft on our computer, and then they just ended the call.

I got two calls in just over an hour warning me my landline was going to get cut off. Both numbers started with 0161, but one had a 5 after it and the other had a 6. Didn’t bother chatting, just hung up straight away on both.

I got a call from someone saying his name was John, claiming to be from Windows licensing. He told me my PC was at risk and gave me a CLSID number, which I know is normal for Windows. When I asked where he was calling from, he said Manchester. I let him go on explaining what he expected me to do with my computer to check that CLSID, but I didn’t actually follow through with the steps while he was talking. He did get annoyed when it seemed like I was taking a while, and when I started asking more detailed questions about what would happen if I cancelled the supposed compromised licence, he just ended the call. It became pretty clear he was foreign despite sounding quite tech-savvy. That 01616 phone code definitely isn’t a real Manchester number.
