Got a call from someone with an Asian accent saying they were ringing from Phillipson Hardwick solicitors about a tax refund linked to a PPI claim. They mentioned it was from like 7 or 8 years ago, but I told them my claim wasn't that old. They kept pushing and then asked for my address, so I just made up an excuse and hung up. They rang back again later that evening. My claim had never even been with those solicitors!

Just got a call from 01615329340 about 5 minutes ago. The woman on the line sounded really professional but she spoke so quickly it made me suspicious. She had my previous address, date of birth and email which was creepy. She said I’d claimed PPI before with no luck but might qualify now. When I asked for something in writing, she said they stopped sending letters since Covid. Definitely watch out, this is a scam!

Got calls from people saying they're The Claims Guys or Philipson Harwick Solicitors, pretending to be connected with The Claims Guys. They push hard to get you to click on a link - whatever you do, don’t click it. I rang the company myself and told them they’re not genuine. I made sure they removed my info and warned them I’d report them to the Police and Action Fraud. If you get a call like this, I’d recommend doing exactly the same.

Today I got a call from this number. They wanted me to verify my address but I flat out refused and asked how they even got my phone number - of course, they dodged the question. I told them I’m a retired civil servant and financial adviser, and without giving any more details, I asked them to send me any info through the post. They quickly said everything’s handled online only. I told them I’m perfectly capable of sorting out any tax issues myself and that under GDPR, they don’t have permission to keep my data and must erase it immediately. Unsurprisingly, they just hung up on me. No concrete proof, but in my view, this sounds like a scam - so be careful!

Got a call today from 0161 532 7208. The guy on the line had an Asian accent and claimed to be ringing from a firm working with HMRC. He said I was owed some sort of refund connected to PIP. Can’t quite recall the name of the company he mentioned. Strange thing was, he knew my full name and where I live!
I didn’t share any info with him though, just said cheers and he ended the call.
I know I’m not due any refund, so it was a bit unsettling how much he seemed to know about me.
