Got a phone call today from a woman who said her name was Pauline Matthews and that she was calling from Homeserve. She claimed I was owed £119 because of an overcharge on a washing machine warranty. I mentioned who I was, but all I could hear was the usual call centre background sounds, then some automated voice telling me the person I tried to reach wasn’t available. Seems like they can’t even pull off a proper scam!

Got a dodgy call claiming I was due a refund for overpaying my Hotpoint washing machine warranty. The woman knew my name and kept pushing me for my bank details, including both my current and savings accounts, saying she wanted to send the money. When I refused, she started getting really nasty and shouting, accusing me of not wanting my refund. She sounded like she had a foreign accent. Just a heads up - I've never even bought a Hotpoint washing machine, so be careful if you get a call like this!

Got a call earlier today, sounded like one of those auto dialler things. I reckon you could even hear some scammer call centre noise in the background for a bit before they just ended the call. Bit strange, right? Why bother calling if they’re just gonna hang up? Pretty clear it’s just scammy behaviour.

So, I got a call saying I was due a Hoover refund, but when I asked them to show me any kind of evidence, the line just went dead. Definitely a scam, watch out!

This number rang me up and the guy introduced himself as Lucifer. Claimed I’d been wrongly charged for a washing machine warranty a year back and said he wanted to sort out my refund. Then he passed the call onto a woman beside him, but I couldn’t quite catch her name. When she started saying I was entitled to a refund, I immediately cut the call. Pretty sure the next move would’ve been to ask for my bank or card info. Total scam, in my opinion. I always just end the call and never share any info.

It sounded pretty believable at first, but the moment they started talking about my bank account to give a refund I got suspicious. Seems like a classic scam, and I guess it could easily trick somebody who’s not paying close attention.

Got a call a little before 9 this morning from a young woman saying I was owed £190 back on some washing machine warranty that I’ve never even purchased. They already had my name, address, and postcode which was a bit creepy. Felt pretty obvious it was a scam just trying to get my bank info. Be careful out there!

I got a call from someone saying they were from my washing machine’s warranty company and that I was due a refund. I mentioned my warranty expired like 20 years ago! Then I asked what they wanted me to do next, expecting a request for my bank info or something. Surprisingly, they actually asked which account I wanted the money sent to. At that point, I just told them I was hanging up and ended the call straight away.

Got a call from Sean Miller, said he needed my bank info to sort out a refund for Appliance Insurance. I hesitated and told him to send the info by post since I’m not comfortable handling these things over the phone. He then offered to put me through to a supervisor, but I asked for their phone number instead so I could ring back when I had the info nearby. Later, I looked it up online to see if it was legit.

Funny thing is, she actually called me by name, so I reckon they must have gotten hold of a mailing list a while back, maybe from some online shop selling electrical goods. I haven’t bought any appliance insurance for ages - it’s just not worth it. Her accent seemed either Eastern European or maybe Scandinavian. They were pushing Home Care Insurance and mentioned giving me a refund for some appliance insurance - think it might’ve been for my washing machine, but I can’t quite remember.

Just like loads of others have said, I got a call from an Asian bloke claiming I’d paid £119 for washing machine insurance on my credit card and was due a refund. He said he couldn’t put the money back on the card because my info had changed (which it hadn’t, at least not lately) and asked for my bank details instead. He even had my name and address spot on. I told him I’d get back to him once I’d double-checked if I actually made any payment. Then he hung up later that week and that was that.
